Slick-Back Braid (10 minutes)
What you’ll need: rat-tail comb, boar-bristle brush, slick-back wax/pomade, strong hair tie, mini elastic, a few bobby pins, edge brush/toothbrush, light hairspray, shine serum.
Vibe: clean part, low pony, sleek braid, chunky gold earrings + joggers + mock neck.
Step-by-step
Prep & smooth
Lightly mist hair (or add a pea of serum). Work slick-back wax through the hairline and crown.
Clean part
Use a rat-tail comb for a sharp middle (or deep side) part. Comb each side flat.
Low pony
Brush everything tight to the nape. Keep tension with your non-dominant hand. Secure with a strong hair tie.
Braid
Split the ponytail into three even sections. Braid down with steady tension; secure the end with a mini elastic.
Wrap & pin
Take a thin strand from the pony base, wrap it around the hair tie to hide it, and pin the tail underneath with a bobby pin.
Optional: slide 1–2 vertical bobby pins behind the braid at the nape to keep it perfectly centered.
Polish
Detail flyaways with wax + edge brush. Mist a light hairspray, then a touch of shine on the braid only.
Finish the look
Pop on chunky gold earrings. Outfit: joggers + mock neck—comfortable, elevated, done. Take that messy mane ➝ sleek & chic in 10.
Clean part, tight low pony, quick braid, wrap + pin, a swipe of slick-back wax—and you’re out the door.
