This travel capsule wardrobe was designed for Switzerland at the end of May into June—cool mornings, mild afternoons, mountain weather swings, lake breezes, rain showers, and lots of walking/train travel.

Expect daytime highs: 60s–70s°F in northern cities and lake regions like Zürich, Lucerne, and Bern. Mornings and evenings can feel much cooler, especially near the water or at higher elevations.

Instead of packing heavy layers, I focused on lightweight pieces that could stack easily and handle changing weather throughout the day.

Here’s what I packed for Switzerland: • 6 tops (merino layers, lightweight knits, elevated basics) • 3 bottoms (active pant, black trouser pant, denim) • 2 outer layers (waterproof trench + packable down jacket) • 3 shoes (trail sneaker, lifestyle sneaker, ballet flat *swap for a weather-friendly loafer if rain is in the forcast.) • Crossbody bag • Lightweight scarf + neckerchief • Sunglasses

I chose lightweight knits, merino layers, and elevated basics that could handle Switzerland’s changing temperatures while still feeling polished enough for city days, train travel, and casual dinners.

Everything mixes and matches easily, layers well, and fits in a carry-on suitcase.

Not headed to Switzerland? This capsule also works well for Austria, southern Germany, northern Italy, the French Alps, Slovenia, and Scandinavian cities in late spring or early summer.

What to Pack for Ireland in the Summer - One of the easiest ways to build a seasonal travel capsule? Don’t start over.

For Ireland in the summer, I use the exact same capsule formula I’d use in spring — I simply swap the heavier pieces for lighter, more breathable versions that make more sense for milder weather.

Heavy knits become lightweight layers.
Thicker pants become breathable fabrics.
Cold-weather accessories become lighter styling pieces.

But some things stay the same because Ireland’s summer still tends to be cool, breezy, damp, and changeable:
• A rain layer
• Lightweight merino pieces
• Jeans for cooler days and evenings
• Comfortable walking shoes
• Easy layering pieces

Here’s what I’d pack for Ireland in the summer:
• Waterproof raincoat
• Lightweight cardigan
• 2 midweight long sleeve merino tops
• 1 breathable short sleeve sweater T
• Gauzy blouse
• 2 Lightweight cotton blend pants
• Straight leg jeans
• Supportive flats + comfortable sneakers

Packing Truth: The biggest mistake you might be making isn’t what you pack - it’s what you’re packing it in.

Your suitcase could be eating up precious weight allowance before you even zip it shut. Some so-called “lightweight” bags weigh 8+ lbs… which can be nearly half the 17 lb limit enforced by some airlines. 😳

👉 When you start with a lightweight carry-on suitcase under 7 lbs, you instantly give yourself more room for the clothes and essentials you actually want to bring. Use that weight allowance for more cute outfits!

⭐️ Why these make the cut as my favorite carry-on suitcases…great quality, work for most international airlines and domestic, and they are ULTRA LIGHTWEIGHT!
