DIY Valentine Decor. I took the pages of an old book and cut them in a bunting shape, then cut out hearts from different pink patterned paper and glue a pink button on top of each. Then I folded the edge of the book page over string and glued it in place. Looks lovely strung across a fireplace

Interior Designer tip: Repetition. Notice how colors are repeated here. The decorative pillow in the forefront picks up the blue of the bed and the warm tones of the sconce and antique writing lap desk. In the next photos, you’ll see how it picks up the colors of the wave painting and the retro bathing suit set. This Hemnes Vanity from IKEA is the third one I own as I have one in each bathroom. The drawers, which I much prefer to shelves, hold so many of my bathroom products. It's small but mighty. They come in a variety of sizes so check to see which one is right for your space.

Reading by the fire on a blustery Sunday morning, listening to the waves crash on shore. Looking up I thought this made a pretty picture and I was right! This accent chair and firewood basket are not currently available so I have tagged some similar ones that I love just as much.

In my main floor bathroom, I have a larger Hemnes Vanity. In keeping with my beach home, aka The Beach Chalet, I've personalized it with some sailor knot (or monkey fist) knobs. This vanity has survived long term renters and airbnb guests and still looks new, after being installed in 2016.

All my guests just automatically sit at these seagrass counter stools when they enter my home. I guess that's partly because I'm usually in the kitchen, serving them a glass of wine. But they are pretty darn comfortable. There's a bit of a spring in the seat. I've had them for a number of years now and they still look good as new.

Looking to refresh your bathroom on a budget? I have these IKEA Hemnes vanities in all three of my bathrooms. The roomy drawers are so much more convenient than digging around inside a cupboard. Nautical inspired lights from Home Depot are hung on either side of the mirror at face height which is the most flattering. And the whale hook for the hand towel adds a touch of whimsy

With a laptop computer, I find that I move around the house as I work, following the sunshine. In the afternoons, this upstairs bedroom with a desk is the perfect spot, especially in winter. My blue office chair is super comfortable and who doesn't love rolling around?

My interior design advice is ALWAYS to design for 95% of the way you want live. My pedestal farmhouse table extends to an oval that in a pinch I can squeeze eight people round but reduces down to a manageable 48" when just me, which is most of the time.

I’m often asked where I bought my wood sperm whale decor. It was at a small shop a few years ago so no longer available. However I found a really similar one on Wayfair that I’ve tagged for you as well as another super cute option. The whale fits my coastal grandmother meets fisherman aesthetic perfectly! Loving this apothecary jar from Michael’s that I received as a gift. I’m slowly eating my way through all the jujubes and gummies. Once they’re gone, I think I’ll fill the jar with some of my beach finds like shells or sea glass.

Does the fireplace grab your attention or the television? As an Interior Designer, I feel that a TV should never be the focal point of a living room. I recently received a lovely compliment as my brother didn’t even notice the television when he was here over the holidays. Most people have their tv’s hung way too high. A media console like this one from Wayfair is designed for the perfect viewing height. I’d absolutely love to get a Samsung Frame TV that looks like art when off and which I specify for all my clients but my log walls make it impossible. 😢

Using spring plants that I bought at the grocery store, I planted them in a pedestal bowl to create a truly “elevated” display in my home. Moss covers up the dirt, giving it a natural, lush look. Adding a bit of spring as I transition from Christmas decorations to winter whites, gives me joy.

Powder Rooms really benefit from a bit of drama or the unexpected. In this oceanfront home, an oversized triptych of a sailing ship's blue print is just perfect. Repeating the vanity in the same colour adds the drama. And a rattan mirror suggests the seaside without being too literal.
