Making your own papel picado on the Cricut is easier than you think! If you’re using cardstock, you’ll NEED a deep point blade — it’s the only way to get a clean cut all the way through. Pair it with 65lb cardstock and you’ll get the perfect finish. The regular blade works best for 24lb paper.

I know many of you value the handmade tradition (and I do too!) but for those who don’t have access to artisan papel picado, this is a fun alternative. If you want to try the traditional method, check out my friend @hauz.and.co IG tutorial and the new book by @luisafnavarro @mexicoinmypocket 🧡🍂✨

Materials I used:
• 65lb cardstock paper
• Cricut machine
• Cricut app papel picado template

DIY Steps:
1. Choose your papel picado template on Cricut.
2. Load your cardstock and let the machine do the cutting.
3. String your pieces together and hang above your altar or doorway.
