Here’s what I wish we’d talk about more It can be hard in the beginning, it might not look or feel the way you imagined, you might have missed the golden hour, it may have been An emergency delivery … BUT it’s so important to know that the work you put in, the dedication you have, the mindset you make clear from the beginning will help you succeed. It might take hiring more than one lactation consultant, they’re not all the same. It might take trying more than one flange size or breast pump. You may need to use different devices to help the process go smoother. You may need to pump and bottle feed or use formula and breast milk in order to give your baby the nutrition they need, but that doesn’t mean you can’t eventually nurse your baby if that’s your goal. It’s okay if it doesn’t feel natural to breastfeed. We’re not all the same and our babies are all unique. In those first few weeks and months it’s so hard to think straight with sleep deprivation and recovery from birth.
