Even though the night of Christ’s birth was certainly neither silent, nor pristinely clean, nor perfectly peaceful - it remains a symbol of hope and renewal to me and my family. I imagine the moments after His birth were intimate, yet unimaginably scary for the young couple. The God of the Universe, in the form of a human baby, was now in the physical care of two brand new parents. As a parent and wife, I especially love how Joseph tenderly embraces Mary as they behold their newborn son together. Every choice in the design of the nativity scene was intentional. The figures' features are not fully realized as a reminder that the good news of the coming of the King was for all men, women, and children from all walks and nations. A gold star crowns the scene, reflecting and pointing to the beauty and majesty of the coming of the King.
