Home Fixes

By JLilyDesigns

My most-popular Home Fixes

I built DIY sliding tile doors to hide our laundry hookups, and somehow the least qualified woodworking woman in the room survived to tell the tale.

The goal: hide the wall hookups but make them easily accessible (because parents don’t need to add a step to the laundry routine).

The solution: a lightweight sliding door unit made with ceiling tiles, Morcart peel-and-stick tile, sliding tracks, and a level of confidence that was not fully earned.

It’s not the shortest tutorial I’ve ever made, but it might be the most useful if your front loaders came with hookups that were placed directly in your line of sight like a decorative feature nobody asked for.

Don’t be like me and ignore the obvious culprit in the room…

The ugly hookups were definitely not helping things, but the lighting was quietly making the entire space look strange — very much like a utility closet with appliances.

I actually started to hate all of the finishes in here, and I’m realizing now that the lighting was a big part of the problem.

We finally swapped out the old fixture this weekend for one I was gifted a while back, and honestly, I’m annoyed I waited this long.

The softer, warmer lighting made the whole room feel happier almost instantly.

It’s still not finished. Not even close. I have big plans for this room and a few other little “quick projects” planned that will absolutely not be quick. 😆

But this one change made the room feel like it’s finally heading somewhere.

Comment SHOP for this beautiful, affordable light fixture.

I’ve always loved wall sconces but hiring an electrician was not in the cards. So I absolutely love that I can get rechargeable LED lights for my wall from Amazon. These in particular are peel n stick (although I recommend screwing them in as I found the adhesive was not a permanent solution).
I love how they balanced out the mirror on my wall and that I can install all by myself.

You can buy these sconces that come with their own bulbs or choose any hardwired sconce, cut the wires and use an LED rechargeable bulb (linked below).

I finally found a way to hide my laundry hookups… and I don’t have to move anything off the counter to use it.

I created a sliding backsplash using Morcart peel-and-stick tile, Lowe’s + Amazon supplies, and very limited DIY confidence. 😅

Everything stays accessible, the panels are lightweight, and I can change the tile later if I want.

**the last 6 products are what I actually used in my closet. The jewelry trays fit perfect inside that specific bookcase.

This $40 bookcase turned jewelry armoire is one of my favorite small-space storage solutions.

If you don’t have room for a full jewelry cabinet, using a simple bookcase and building it out with trays + a mirror gives you that same function—just in a more flexible way. Everything has a place, it’s easy to see, and it actually makes getting ready feel easier.

Designer note: the Target bookcase width fits the mirror and jewelry trays I linked, so everything works together seamlessly. If you swap in a different bookcase or trays, just double check your measurements to make sure everything fits properly within the shelves. Everything labeled “exact” will be compatible.

All sources are linked from Amazon, Target, and Walmart to keep this a budget-friendly, accessible setup.
