It may have been rainy today, but we were prom mini ready in a phenomenal location with breathtaking lighting 😍. Loved getting to soak up such fun and special moments with these kids- most of whom were my students when they were in junior high! 🥹

Setting up for prom mini sessions takes time- we arrived 90 minutes early to make sure we had all of our lighting and props ready, poses planned, and settings dialed in! It takes a lot of different items to create the perfect moment- but luckily we started with a perfect location and amazing light!

Whether it is prom or your wedding day, rain can definitely cause added stress about getting from place to place and keeping dry. Don’t panic—I’ve got you covered (literally).
Here are tips to keep your formal wear dry and picture-perfect even if the skies open up:
• Clear umbrella = fashion + function
• Bring a towel, clear shower curtain, or sheet to protect your hem- put it on the ground where you are going to stand to prevent your gown absorbing the moisture.
• Rock slip-on shoes first to get where you’re going, heels later
• A little dry shampoo on the hem goes a long way- spray the inside (lay gown down, fold hem up, protect rest of dress with towel while spraying, allow to dry, then flip and repeat on other side)
• Bring a dress holder (aka mom or bestie)
• Get dropped off under a covered area
• Clear poncho for walking around
• Choose covered spots for photos—porches, gazebos, awnings…unless you dare to brave the rain that can bring great photo results to if that’s what you’re after!)

Tag your prom crew and save this for later—because weather shouldn’t rain on your sparkle.

Forecast shows rain is happening tomorrow for Parke Heritage’s prom- clear umbrellas are a great option! Doesn’t disrupt pics, doesn’t clash with dress, and the bubble type you can carry low to completely cover your hair!

When I capture prom mini sessions I also try to be ready to help with last minutes needs and fixes. As someone who has worked as a make-up artist, in a bridal salon, and worked with teens as a teacher I think I have a unique skill set when it comes to prom🤣. I’ve sewn girls into broken zippers, hemmed dresses with safety pins, and glued lashes back on all while chaperoning a prom, so you can trust me. This is what I always pack along with me in a basket to try to keep my clients comfortable and aid in any prom emergency!
