The hours right after school can set the tone for the whole evening. A few simple systems can make that shift from school mode to home mode calmer for everyone: 1. Create a Transition Ritual A short 5–10 minute routine signals the shift. My girls put away their coats and shoes, unload their backpacks, and put papers I need to see into a tray in our office. This allows me to look at the papers later without them cluttering up the counter. 2. Have a Snack Station Ready Prepped bins in the fridge or pantry show the girls what they can have that are approved by me. 3. Build in Decompression Time I have all my girls separate to different rooms to each have some time alone to regroup before the rest of the evening. This has made a huge difference and is a reset we didn’t know we needed! They may watch a show or catch up on reading or homework if they have it. A little planning on the front end makes the after-school window so much more peaceful! momhack routine afterschool twinmom kidsroutine cleanwithme organization afternoon LTKFamily LTKKids LTKHome
