I’m fairly budget-conscious—but I’ve never believed the cheapest choice is automatically the smartest one. There are things I’ll happily save on…and others where I’ll spend a little more money, time, effort or planning because the return is genuinely better. My test is pretty simple: Does the extra buy me more time, comfort, quality, connection—or a noticeably better experience? That’s why I’ll spend more on bedding I use every night but skip plenty of trendy home decor. I’ll take ten extra minutes to make the vinaigrette that transforms dinner—but I’m perfectly happy using shortcuts where nobody can tell the difference. I’ll plan the restaurant I would hate to miss on vacation—but leave half the itinerary wide open. And sometimes I’ll pay more for the hotel in the right neighborhood because “saving” $60 only to spend it on rides and lose hours commuting isn’t much of a bargain. That’s the version of luxury I’m most interested in now: not spending more everywhere—knowing where spending more actually pays you back. What’s one thing that’s worth the extra every single time for you? Send this to your friend who knows exactly when to splurge—and exactly when the answer is absolutely not.
