Swipe to see how proportion completely changes the way a room feels 👀 One of the biggest design mistakes I see is TOO much negative space around windows, furniture, lighting, and decor. Empty space isn’t automatically a good thing — because when something is surrounded by too much emptiness, it can actually make it feel smaller. In the second design:
• the curtains visually stretch the wall taller
• the oversized chandelier balances the ceiling height
• the larger sectional creates stronger visual weight
• the properly sized rug grounds the entire seating area
• the taller potted tree helps draw the eye upward
• and suddenly the windows feel larger and more architectural Same room. Same windows. Completely different perception. Your eye judges size through comparison and proportion — which is why undersized furniture, rugs, lighting, and decor can accidentally make a room feel smaller and unfinished.
