As it turns out…wearing neutral colors on safari is NOT just for the cute fit- it’s to blend in with the scenery and not scare the animals with bright colors! AND in some locations dark colors, whites, or bright colors can attract insects and flies!

What we learned packing for this amazing safari in South Africa is that packing for a safari is a very specific vibe - part practical, part cozy, part cute, and part “please don’t fly away in the wind.” 😂 (There were a couple people who wore baseball caps that flew away…)
 After experiencing sunrise and sunset game drives, chilly evenings, and lots of dust, these were the pieces I was SO glad I brought.

🦁My safari packing MUST-haves: ✔️ The perfect packable hat - it smooshes down flat, is breathable, AND cinches so it doesn’t fly off the jeep. Absolute essential. ✔️ Neutral colors - I am the most colorful outfit girlie, but for safari, stick to tans, olives, browns, & muted tones. ✔️ Vineyard Vines Dreamcloth Shep Shirt - my cozy essential for staying warm. I lived in this. ✔️ Warm layers - mornings + evenings are cold. I was so grateful for: – a thermal base layer – a lightweight vest – a windproof rain jacket – a cute scarf (my signature pop of color 🩵 I just couldn’t do ALL neutral 😉) ✔️ Comfort over everything - dust, wind, and long drives = you want clothes that feel good all day.
✔️ Actual hiking boots not just “cute shoes” - we got out of the vehicle and walked around. There are snakes (we didn’t see any, but they’re out there) and some people used the “bush toilet” - I was glad to have actual hiking boots not impractical shoes.

🦁 Why layers matter: Safari days start before sunrise, and the temps climb fast - you’ll be freezing at 5:30am and warm by 10am.

U.S. fall is springtime in South Africa and the weather is *perfect* - it was the best time to travel!
 Golden sunsets on safari, rugged coastlines, turquoise water, mountains, lions (!!), and some of the most jaw-dropping scenery on earth.

It’s one of those destinations that surprises you in the best way — every single day feels like a different trip.

We went from snorkeling with seals on the coastline to a magical safari sunset. It felt like traveling through five countries in one day.

📍What to add to your South Africa itinerary: ✔️ Safari - sunrise + sunset game drives = peak wildlife viewing 🦁 ✔️ Cape Town - Table Mountain, Camps Bay, Bo-Kaap, penguins at Boulders Beach 🐧 ✔️ Garden Route - coastal cliffs, beaches, and small towns along the drive 🚗 ✔️ Chapman’s Peak Drive - one of the most stunning roads in the world 🌄 ✔️ Winelands - wine tasting in Stellenbosch 🍷

💡Tips for planning a South Africa trip: – Give yourself at least 8–12 days to experience safari + Cape Town – Book safari lodges early - the best ones fill fast – Weather can flip quickly - bring layers, especially on the coast and safari  – Rent a car for the Garden Route or go on a tour - it’s the easiest way to explore – Safari drives mean early mornings… but SO worth it 🫶

There are some trips you think you know what to expect… until you’re actually there.
 Sitting in an open-air jeep, hearing the low rumble of a lion before you even see it… then suddenly it’s right in front of you. Nothing prepares you for that moment. 😳🔥

This was one of those “okay… life is WILD” experiences - the kind you remember forever.

We were looking for the lions on our sunrise safari…and then suddenly the lions were looking AT us. This massive lion snuck through the bush on the side of our jeep and locked eyes with us. We all collectively gasped and froze in our tracks. It was so insane and magical. A moment we’ll never forget.

📍Gondwana Private Game Reserve, South Africa ✔️ Sunrise + sunset drives = peak animal activity 🌅🦒 ✔️ Bring binoculars 1 the good ones make a huge difference ✔️ Move slowly + stay quiet - you’re in their world 🦁 ✔️ Ask your guide all the questions - their knowledge makes the experience 10x better ✔️ And yes… waking up at 4:30am is always worth it 😅

We just got back from the most magical trip to South Africa where we got to experience several safari adventures!! This was such a once-in-a-lifetime trip and we are SO thankful and grateful for the experience. 📸

There’s nothing like hearing the low rumble of lions at dawn, or watching elephants wander by your jeep as the sun melts into the horizon. 🐘🌅

✔️ Golden hour lighting = pure magic ✨
✔️ Book a sunrise or sunset game drive - animals are most active then 🦒
✔️ Bring binoculars + patience - wildlife photography is unpredictable!

✔️ And yes, the 5:00am wake-up is 1000% worth it 😅
