Hi! I’m Kelly, mom of three. We’ve been renting our furnished basement to traveling healthcare professionals for about 3 to 4 years now, and it’s been such a wonderful experience. Sometimes one guest moves out in the morning and the next one moves in that same afternoon. We’ve made lifelong friends through this process, and I love providing a safe, home-like space for them while earning a little passive income. My husband and I both have a lot of nurses in our families, and we started doing this after one of his cousins traveled for a bit. We had extra space downstairs, so I told her that if she ever came to Virginia, she had a place to stay with us. She shared how she found places to rent, and I thought, why can’t we try that? Within days of posting our space, I had several travelers message me asking if it was available. Over the last several years, we’ve slowly pieced everything together, including a fence to keep their animals separate from ours, a sidewalk to the basement, and a new laundry room down there. Right now we’re giving the space a refresh with new paint and floors. The carpet was here when we moved in, probably 5 to 10 years old, so I’m excited to replace it with @pergofloors flooring from @loweshomeimprovement.
