Hi friends! For 5 years I worked in a salon & spa as a licensed manicurist. I worked with clients with natural nails only, I had another very talented co-worker who specialized in artificial nails. While getting off acrylics, gels, dips and other types of overlays can require nail strengthening polishes like the ones shown here - many people don’t realize other factors can lead to nails that peel at the tips, split down the middle or tear at the sides. Acetone nail polish remover is very drying to the nail, while ridges that form naturally as we get older can lead to splitting and filing your nail in an almond shape, which offers no side support for your nail, can sometimes initiate painful tearing low on the sides of your nail! I always urged my clients to use non-acetone remover - yes it takes longer to get your polish off but it saves your nails! Ridges are annoying, but using a nail strengthening product and keeping nails at shorter length helps keep them in check. A sq-oval (squarish-oval) nail shape gives your nails side support while giving you a soft oval shape on the tips that gives the illusion of longer dainty fingers. My favorite and the most beneficial nail strengthening product I used and sold to my clients was Nailtiques 2. This worked phenomenally for most of my clients while occasionally I would recommend 2+ if the nails were very very fragile. Cold weather, if you are in a job where you wash your hands often, these are factors that can also contribute to weak, peeling nails. The most important info I’d share with my clients about nail heath is that a healthy nail is both strong AND flexible. I highly recommend using a cuticle oil or cream every night before bed as this provides the moisture that facilitates the flexibility while the strengthening products provide, you guessed it, the power to deal with all your hands do in a typical or not so typical day! I hope this info is helpful for you! Have a beautiful and blessed Sunday!
