When I was putting together book lists for the kids’ dorms, I noticed just how many medical-themed books I’d tucked in. From dermatology to surgery to what bones are made of—it wasn’t random. So many of our incredible kiddos here are brave enough to face hospital stays, routine checkups, or unexpected clinic visits. I wanted them to have stories that help them understand what’s happening, to feel empowered, and to even imagine themselves as the doctors, surgeons, and caregivers they see on our visiting teams. These books are especially great if you have a child who’s in and out of the hospital or curious about the body and how it works. They help put language and imagination to things that can feel scary or confusing. A little knowledge goes a long way in helping kids feel safe.
