The design project I am currently working on is for a renovated early 1960’s Mid-Century house; showcasing the original bones and floor plan with an updated and more transitional approach.

• KITCHEN • Exposed Shelving Tip •
How to create well-styled shelving while avoiding over-cluttering. •

The key to is to first come up with a color palette to stay within and a selection of hard finishes you want include. Once you have these down, make a list of essential items needed and accents pieces wanted. By combining these checklists together, begin pulling pieces in a variation of sizes, shapes, and heights, using your color palette and finish direction. When purchasing pieces for a kitchen I like to use a 80/20 mindset. Meaning, 80% of items purchased are functioning essentials (dinnerware, glassware, cutting boards, pitchers, etc.) while the remaining 20% of items are solely for decor (vases, sculptural pieces, art, etc.). Applying these steps will ensure an intentionally cohesive aesthetic throughout the shelves with the appropriate amount of function balanced with decor.

For this specific project I’m working on for a client, my finishes list includes: wood, stone, ceramic, porcelain, glass, & brass. Color palette as shown in images.

These are absolute OUI for me.

Sometimes, people get hesitant with patterns and vibrant colors as they don’t want to commit. But accent pillows are one of the ultimately perfect ways to introduce S P A R K into a space. They’re never permanent and always changeable. Not to mention the texture and fabric provide a layered feel that balanced hard surfaces and warms up any room. I’d like to have these pillows in every color and change them around periodically . What a treat!
