Life is a pilgrimage.

We weren’t made for this world. We weren’t made for this life. We were made for the next.

When we go on pilgrimage, we experience discomfort, suffering, pain, exhaustion, and everything in between. Then we return to our regular lives and expect to go back to comfort, even though we’re constantly being called higher. We’re not meant to be comfortable.

The reality of pilgrimage was made especially clear to me these last ten days. As my feet ached and my heart hurt and voices around me only contributed to my despair, I understood for the first time the reality of not being able to make the journey alone.

We can’t make it through this life without the support of our Creator. Without Him we will consistently find ourselves disappointed in the fleeting things of this world. The feelings of joy will fade. The physical beauty of the churches we visit will only remain in photos. The only thing that’s certain is our home in the kingdom of God.

Embrace the necessity of relying on God. Embrace the confidence in future eternity with Him. Embrace the pilgrimage journey of this life.
