Top 3 questions I get asked about my stretched braidout ✨

I get these questions ALOT this hairstyle. Here are the long answers:

How do you preserve it at night?

My method for preserving it is the same as my normal braidout or twistout. I use the pineapple method where I flip my hair over and gather all my hair at the top. I then wrap a scarf around it and put a bonnet on the hair that is left out. Depending on the look you are going for you may want to rebraid your braids up. Back in the day I would rebraid my hair right back into the same braids because I would want my hair to look the same as day 1 hair. In recent years I found that is not necessary for me any longer. I like the look I get as the days progress. If my hair looks like it is separating too much over time I will do a few braids on each side and still like the way it turns out. It just all depends on the results YOU like the most.

How long does it last?

It can last as long as you want it to! If you get tired of the look you can wash your hair and start new or you can rebraid your hair back up for a refresh when you see the need. I get lots of strinkage with my hair so I’m not mad at my hair looking fluffy and big. I am liking that look more these days rather than super defined. I will also sometimes do a stretched braidout on an old silk press so the results may come out very different because the hair is freshly washed before styling!

What hair combo do I use?

If I want more definition I will use a combo that will include a heavier cream or strong hold mousse vs if I want a lighter bouncer look I will use something that is not very heavy like a lighter mouse (that is not sticky) or a light leave in conditioner. Also adding the tiny rollers to the ends helps the look come together in my opinion!

It’s honestly up to you and the look you want to achieve & how your hair will respond to the stretched braidout methods. Try different techniques each time until you find one that you love!❤️ I will include some of my favorites for my stretched braidout for out!

3 Things I've Made a Priority in My Kids' Haircare Routine ✨

I've shared before that I focus more on hair health than just length or super sleek styles. Here are three things I've prioritized that have made such a difference in my girls' hair.

Incorporating bond repair into wash day.
I've always used moisturizing shampoos and conditioners, but once I added bond repair products into their routine, I noticed stronger strands and healthier-looking hair overall. I was only using these on myself, but when I tried them on the girls on wash day I was like, "Why didn't I do this sooner?"

Regular trims.
Keeping their ends trimmed makes a big difference in how styles turn out and in their overall hair health. I've been doing them myself at home, but I highly recommend taking little ones to a stylist if you don't feel comfortable trimming on your own.

Washing once a week.
Sticking to a once-a-week wash day keeps their hair less tangled, softer, and more moisturized. When I wait any longer, wash day becomes a struggle. I see more shedding, more knots, and I spend way more time doing hair. The girls are outdoors a lot with sports, so washing weekly helps remove dirt and debris from their hair.

And one last tip: have them wear a silk bonnet or use a silk pillowcase at night to help protect their hair between wash days.

Which rollers/rods give which results? ✨

I play around with lots of different rollers/rods to preserve my curls overnight and to add curls to my stretched styles. I can get very different results depending on the rods I use and I can also get the same results from different rods. Some will allow you to sleep better than others and some of the results are worth a more uncomfortable sleeping situation. I’ve shared videos on my page of each of my results using all of these rods!

A few tips for some of them are that with the silk rods (the one in different shades of brown and pink) they can slip off if they are not secure. I recommend a turban bonnet to hold them on a little tighter than your standard bonnet. I also have rod covers that will hold the rod on so they don’t slip off. The small pink rollers are very soft if you want to make sure to get a good nights rest. The round large grey and black rollers are my least favorite as they didn’t work out the best for me and I don’t like the pulling that comes with taking them down. I also could be using them completely wrong lol. I’ll continue to share me results from trying different rollers and let you know my favorites! ✨
