Ann Miller appeared to be a scent connoisseur. The 2022 Julien’s auction of her personal property (she passed away in 2004) included around 20 bottles of perfume and in old photographs of her at her vanity you can see several bottles lining the surface. Of these, I focused on 5 vintage scents that you can still purchase today (bottles pictured are of current versions): Bal A Versailles By Jean Desprez - this 1962 fragrance is warm, woody, spicy, and heavy with amber & musk. 2 bottles of it were included at auction so she must have been a fan. Arpège by Lanvin - launched in 1927, this was a favorite scent of several old Hollywood stars, including Marilyn Monroe. It’s woody, floral, fresh but strong. Shalimar by Guerlain - another fragrance popular amongst old Hollywood stars (this is actually one of several classic Guerlain fragrances loved by the stars & still available today). Shalimar was created in 1925 and smells spicy and warm like citrus, amber, and vanillla. This was identified in a photo of her 1940s vanity table, but wasn’t included in the 2022 auction so possible this was a favorite of her youth that she may have grown out of. Je Reviens Eau de Toilette by Worth - launched in 1932 it’s a powdery sweet floral scent; a bit dated and may be why she appeared to wear it in the 1940s, but it wasn’t included in the auction of her more recent perfumes. Joy by Jean Patou - Ann owned many scents by Jean Patou (evident from old photos & at auction), but I picked this one because it’s a common fave of old Hollywood stars and is one that’s still available today at a not-so-horrific price. Launched in 1930, it’s a musky floral scent (rose & jasmine). Do you own or wear any of Ann Miller’s favorite scents? oldhollywood hollywoodglam classicfilm LTKFindsUnder100 LTKselfcare LTKBeauty
