What’s in a Fancy Forest Christmas Tree? 👇

Well, I knew I had to have giant DIY moss covered mushrooms in mine. That’s why I took these DIY mushrooms my daughter and I made in the spring and covered them in moss. They turned out , but let’s just say that wasn’t my cleanest or easiest DIY I’ve ever done.

Next, obviously you’ll need some fancy squirrels. Check my LTK page for these guys. They fit right in.

The other things I really love about this tree are the combination of my lighting recipe with the large iridescent ornaments. I used one 40’ cluster light on the trunk and set that strand of lights to twinkle. Then I lit the branches with three 75 foot snake lights. The 10” iridescent ornaments let that light shine through the tree. Love it!

Finally, the ribbon is so gorgeous that I topped the tree off with the luxurious 4” Diamond and Pearl ribbon and accented it with the 1” emerald velvet ribbon.

SNAKE LIGHTS - My snake lights are longer than my cluster lights. The snake lights I use are on a strand that is 73.8 feet long. This means they are long enough to go from the top of a tree to the bottom of a tree or all the way around my windmill. I also use them in long garlands. They have 1,000 LED lights per strand.

CLUSTER LIGHTS - These lights are more compact. They are shorter and have more lights per strand. These strands of lights are 49.5 feet long and have 1,500 lights. They are great for using down the trunk of tall trees or they can be used by themselves to drench a tree in light! They can also be great in garlands because they are connectable.

You can combine the two types of lights to light up a whole room. You could even put a cluster light in the middle of your tree and add snake lights all around it. Get creative!

Is it easy to flock a ten foot Christmas tree? Well, it’s not that hard really. Spray, flock, spray.

Can you really flock indoors? Yes! Just skip the sifter and protect your floors and you should be good.

How much flock do I need? It depends on how big your tree is and how much flock you use. I probably used 5 pounds in this tree this year. Last year I think I used 8 pounds or so.

What will it look like next year? It won’t be as pretty as when it is freshly done. Plan to flock every year, but if gets easier each year.

Even the prettiest Christmas garland can look a little off if your holiday ribbon isn’t spaced just right. Here’s a super simple garland decorating tip I use every year when I’m styling mantels for that designer, balanced look. 🎄✨

Just take the middle of your ribbon and attach it to the middle of your garland first—then work your way out to each end. This guarantees your ribbon is evenly distributed, full, and flowing all the way across your mantel. Such an easy Christmas decorating hack, but it makes a huge difference!

Here’s a fun little decorating tip! You can transform your existing decor with a little spray paint and a floral pick to create a completely different look.

I took some gold antler ornaments I already had and gave them a whole new life. 🦌✨

A quick coat of white spray paint instantly modernized them, and then I removed the hanging string and added a floral pick to the back. Just like that… they went from regular hanging ornaments to antler picks that can be styled anywhere in the tree.

If you decorate differently from year to year, don’t be afraid change up your existing decor to make it work for your design each year!

I loved how this design came together with the ice white lights. I wanted a winter white and I was definitely able to achieve that with ice white lights. Warm white lights would have looked completely different.

The most controversial thing I’ve ever said!

Don’t go around and around your tree putting your lights on. Put them on top to bottom in a zig zag pattern.

When I posted this tip a few years ago, I quickly realized people have some strong feelings about their Christmas lights and how they put them on their trees.

Well, I said what I said. You should put your lights on your tree from top to bottom, not around and around your tree. It’s just that much easier!

If you put your lights on any other way, I encourage you to give this a try!

Christmas ambiance always starts with the lights on the tree.

Here I created the perfect ambiance in my living room. First, I lit my 10 foot tree with 5 strands of 75 foot warm white snake lights. Then I added more snake lights to my mantel garland.

With my tree and mantel lit, I then added my Flameless candles and turned on the fireplace. This room was filled with Christmas joy.

I loved sitting in here by the fireplace with my hot cocoa enjoying my lights.

These lights weren’t connectable, but I have some listed that are and yes, they twinkle!

I used (2) 50 foot connectable cluster lights on the trunk of the tree. Then, I put (3) cascading lights on the top of the tree. Finally, I added (5) 75 foot snake lights on the branches.

This is a 10 foot full tree with a total of 8,000 warm white lights and 1,800 cascading lights.

Yes, they twinkle!

I added these lights using my top to bottom zigzagging zag method that makes lighting your tree so easy!

Here’s a little ribbon tip that makes a big difference! 🎀
I like to attach my ribbon using long pieces of paddle wire instead of pinching it into a branch. On my flocked tree, those branches are stiff with flocking, and this trick keeps both the branches and my ribbon in perfect shape.

It’s gentler, easier to adjust, and keeps that beautiful ribbon from getting creased. ✨

Sometimes the smallest change makes the biggest impact!
