How to Elevate Your Pencil Tree

If I’m telling the truth, pencil trees aren’t my favorite. I think they have their place especially if you have a spall space.

But, you can also make the most of a pencil tree. Here’s how.

1. Elevate your tree by placing it on a table.
2. Use a ton of decor to make the tree appear larger.

On this tree, I had a ton of wooden toys that Santa might bring on his sleigh including a full wooden train. I also had Santa himself attached at the top of the tree. I had oversized ornaments, layered ribbons and a topper.

By placing the tree on the table and using so much decor, the tree took up more visual space.

I used one strand of the original warm white snake lights, but the multi-color lights would have been a fun touch if I had had them at the time.

🎄✨ **How many cluster lights do you need to light a 6.5-foot Christmas tree?**
Spoiler: it’s _three_ — and here’s exactly how you do it! 💡

Start **at the top** of the tree with the connector end of the first 49.5 ft strand and work my way **down using my zig-zag lighting technique**. When that strand runs out, connect the **second strand** and keep going down the tree.

At the bottom, use the **extra length** to wrap around the back for full coverage — that’s the strand that plugs into the outlet. Then connect the **third strand back to the top** and fill in any spots that need a little extra sparkle.

✨ You can connect up to three cluster lights together — perfect for a full, evenly lit 6.5-foot tree that _glows from every angle._

Check out this fabulous red velvet glitter snowflake ribbon.

Yes, its’ true. I’m pretty gentle with my ribbon. I prefer to take the entire ribbon off the bolt and attach to my tree or garland with paddle wire.

I just love the natural curl the ribbon has when it comes off the bolt and I don’t love pinching my ribbon to attach it. Using paddle wire around the ribbon helps keep the ribbon from creasing.

When you don’t like multi-color lights, but your kids do.

Shop both cluster and multi-color lights.

If you are like me, you think mult-color lights are okay for your kid’s room, but not for the living room. I definitley prefer the warm white glow of my cluster lights and I’ve only ever used multi-color lights in my son’s room. However, I decided to break the rules this year and experiment with mult-color lights.

I like the color of the lights, but I’ve never thought they were really bright enough to really light up a room and if you know me, you know I love to light up a room with my Christmas lights! So, I decided to combine the multi-color lights with the cluster lights to see if I could still light up the room.

The result was a tree with over 10,000 lights! This is the most lights I have ever put on a tree and I do love it! I can’t wait to decorate it!

The cluster lights are bright enough to light up the room and the multi-color lights add a bit of fun Christmas magic and a feeling of nostalgia. I still remember my grandad putting up those old fashioned multi-color lights on the outside of their house.

So far I’ve left both the cluster and mult-color lights on, but if I wanted to turn off the multi-color lights and only have the cluster lights on, I could.

Here’s an easy mantel garland lighting tip to make sure you have the best well lit mantel garland in town.

Start with two strands of lights from the middle of the mantel. When you reach the end of the garland with your lights, save them for later. After you decorate, take the extra lights and run them back over the top of your decor.

Now, instead of covering up all your lights with your decor, you have lights under and over the decor. This means you are lit all around!

Grab clear wire lights before they are gone, gone, gone.

If you have a heavily flocked tree or a white tree, you are going to want to use the clear wire lights.

This year I have the 73.8 foot clear wire snake lights and the 19.6 foot clear wire cluster lights available.

Combine these lights by adding the cluster light on the trunk and the snake lights on the branches.

The clear wire lights certainly make your tree pop.

Check out this faux leather and jute ribbon. This 2.5 inch ribbon is great for bows by itself or paired with another ribbon. It would make a great accent ribbon run through your tree.

I wish I had this ribbon back when I was doing some of my more rustic designs. I would pair this ribbon with the birch 4” and the chocolate brown shatterproof ornaments all day long.

Connectable lights are great. Just be sure you know what you can connect together.

What lights connect to each other? Well, let me tell you.

- RAZ Clusters - Connect up to three together
- RAZ Snake - Connect two together
- Holiday Hangups Cluster - Connect up to three together
- Holiday Hangups Snake - Connect two together

Only connect like with like. Do not connect RAZ to Holiday Hangups and do not connect cluster lights to snake lights.
