Comment “Lights” if you are getting dizzy becasuse you are still putting your lights on your tree by going around and around your tree. Try mastering this zig zag and a loop technique. It’s so much easier and you won’t be dizzy when you are done.

Start at the top of your tree and bring your lights down the tree to the bottom in a zig zag pattern. If you have lights that are not connectable, you can plug them in to a power strip on the floor.

Now, you also want to be making loops on your branches with your lights as you are going from the top to the bottom of the tree. You are essentially placing the lights on each branch from the back of the branch to the front of the branch and then to the back of the branch. Next, move over or down a branch. You can see the loop in this video.

I was afraid to start decorating this tree. I wasn’t sure exactly how it was going to turn out. Sometimes I hesitate to start when what I really need to do is just start.

I had drawn some inspiration from a designer I had found right here on Instagram. She was using the middle of the tree as a focal point and I loved how it was telling a story.

I knew I was using my large owl in the center of the tree and then decided to use the ribbon as a frame around my main subject. I loved this effect. The ribbon became part of the story.

Once I started putting this tree and story together, it just started coming to me. My final step was to add the nests under the owls. When I got the tree together, I thought it needed something to draw the eye to the owls. I came up with the nests that I made out of grapevine wreath and moss. This added just the pop of green that was needed to draw the eye my subjects. I even built a nest for an owl and attached it to a branch at the top of the tree.

The name Owl Be Home For Christmas didn’t come to me until it was almost completed.

I am always searching for inspiration that helps me put together something different and unique. This turned out the be one of my most unique creations and I loved this Christmas tree.

Have you ever lit your mantel and covered up all your lights with decor? Well, when you are adding lights to your mantel garland, here’s an easy hack to make sure your decor is well lit.

1. First, light your garland.
2. Then, keep extra lights in reserve on either end of the mantel.
3. Decorate your garland.
4. Finally, take the extra lights that you saved and run them back over the top of your decor.

Tree lost its flock? Do this! 👇

So many people love the look of a flocked Christmas tree and I am one of them! Man, they are really gorgeous, especially when the flock is fresh.

Well, if you have a flocked tree, Im sure you’ve noticed how much flock falls off every year when you are setting your tree up, decorating, then taking it down, etc. After a few years, you might be thinking, it’s looking more green than flocked.

That’s when you give that old flock job a little refresh. It’s not hard to do and I walked through it in Stories for you. If you missed it, it’s saved in Highlights under Flock Tutorial.

What you’ll need for this job…

1. A Christmas tree
2. Flock
3. Water

First, spray your branch with water. Next, add your flock. Then, spray with water again. Repeat as much as necessary on each branch.

Before you know it, you’ll have a beautiful flocked tree again!

Let me show you the Holiday Hangups cluster lights, but first lets talk about the warm white light color.

Have you ever noticed that lights look different at different times of the day or with different decor on your tree, or on a green tree versus a flocked tree? What about in a different room in your house with different paint colors? All of these can affect the light color you see.

Also, lights look more saturated with color when there is more even natural light on them like on a cloudy day. The warm white lights will look their warmest on those days or in the evening during gold hour.

It’s not hard, really. A portable power bank with a plug is what you need.

This tinsel tree is perfect on my dining room table, but I can’t very well plug my lights in to the wall. So, I use a power bank when I want to light it up.

That’s how I get no cords running to the wall creating tripping hazards and beautiful Christmas lights in the middle of my table. Win win!

When you’re building a topper with lots of picks (like this _glitter eucalyptus_ ✨), make sure you step down off your ladder to check your angles! I move my ladder around the tree several times to make sure the topper looks _round and even_ from every side. 👀

💡Pro tip: Don’t stick your picks straight up! Add a _slight curve_ so the topper flows _down_ from the top of the tree for that beautiful, finished shape.

I do if the tree calls for it. Some trees don’t need it.

I love a full topper on this tree because the top of the tree isn’t close to the ceiling at all. By adding this full topper, I’ve made my tree taller. I’ve gone from 10 feet to 12 feet.

On this tree, I used a lot of stems on the topper. I also put more in the body of the tree. Most of the time, I think that really ties the tree together and I like that look.

My best advice…don’t get married! Ha ha! Don’t get married to the order of things, that is. Always be ready to pivot!

I’m going to have an idea in my head of what I want, but I know I might have to do things in a different order to get the look I want.

I’m always going to map out where my focal points are going to end up, and after that, I’m probably going to place my large ornaments. Then, I’ll probably start working on the topper. After I have my basic framework, I’m going with the flow on ribbon, ornaments, and picks.

It’s a creative process. So, I try to keep an open mind and get creative!

Cluster lights are getting all the attention these days, but these snake lights are the exact same lights for less $$$$. If you have checked out the cluster lights and love the look, but are looking to spend a little less, take a look at these orignal snake lights.

They are 73.8 feet long with 1,000 warm white LED lights and they have twinkle mode! Since they are longer than the cluster lights, you can cover more of your tree with one strand.

They are available in a non-connectable (more savings) and a connectable version. If you use my top to bottom zig zag lighting technique, you can plug everything in to a power strip on the floor and you don’t need to connect them.

There is also a Holiday Hangups connectable version that is 75 feet long and has a dim feature.
