Before I ever recommend a sofa to a client, I like to check a few things but here are my top three… and it’s not the color.

Seat depth determines comfort.

Cushion fill tells you how the sofa will age.

A lot of sofas look beautiful online but feel completely different in a real home after a few months.

The most common design issue I see has nothing to do with budget.

You can have beautiful furniture and a room will still feel “off” if the walls don’t anchor the space. A focal point is what makes a home feel intentional instead of temporary.

A round, sculptural coffee table needs contrast, either slimmer profiles, lighter visual weight, or an interesting shape so the room doesn’t feel heavy.

I designed this primary bedroom for my client to feel warm, calming, and elevated without feeling overdone. I layered earthy tones, soft textures, and warm lighting to create that cozy, hotel like comfort at home.

Most people design kids bedrooms backwards.

They start with a theme…and then 2 years later the child outgrows it and the entire room has to be redone.

So for this space I did the opposite.

I designed it like an adult bedroom first and a kids room second.

Soft upholstered bed, warm wood furniture, botanical, wallpaper, layered textures, and muted greens for balance. Then the personality comes from the things that are easy to change: books, toys, and artwork.

Now as she grows, the room grows too, without replacing all the furniture.

Kids spaces don’t have to be loud to feel magical.
Sometimes calm is actually what makes them feel special. 🤍

If you’re designing a kids bedroom and don’t want to redo it in two years, this is the approach I always use.

I start with a soft, neutral foundation, an upholstered bed, warm wood furniture, and a calming wallpaper. Then I layer personality through decor instead of permanent pieces.

The sage bench adds seating for bedtime routines, the textured rug makes the room cozy, and the brass lighting keeps the space elevated instead of childish.

Now as she grows, you only swap the books, toys, and artwork, not the furniture.
