What did you spend your Saturday doing? because I spent mine completing day 1 of ATLS certification.

Day 1 Recap: Learning the art of saving lives in the GOLDEN HOUR

[BKA: the critical window we have to be able to identify life threatening injuries after trauma and intervene]

Today included:

- Completed some longggg lectures
- Practiced skills at a few stations
- Intubated babies (scary for AGACNPs. We only do ADULTS LOL!)
- Inserted chest tubes
- Adult intubation practice (pro tip: go UP, not back and up to avoid teeth damage)
- Reviewed trauma images

On today, I would like to recognize and thank Mary Eliza Mahoney, who was the first black licensed nurse in the United States.

She paved the way for ALL of us. and lately, I use my time on social media to educate and inspire others who look like me to join and grow in this profession, but I also know that nursing is a work of heart. The money will never be enough. You have to have the PASSION.

But that’s why Nurse’s Week is so important. We are the most overworked, underpaid, under-appreciated profession and we deserve our flowers. Not only THIS week, but EVERY week.
