When I set this activity up, I pictured my daughter pressing the pattern blocks flat into the play dough to make designs. Instead, she stuck them upright and created a beautiful sculpture. It was such a good reminder that children often have ideas we would never think of ourselves. That’s why I’ve come to love simple, open-ended invitations to play.
