I’m going to leave no crumbs here with this one, and maybe it’s not the right forum… but you know me by now - can’t stop these wild fingers. I just replied to the group text for my son’s baseball team (oh don’t get me started on THE SPORTS texts) that I will do the snacks on Saturday but, and I quote, “I was shamed at Boy Scouts last week for cheez-its and Gatorade so I have some snack PTSD.” It got enough “haha”s to appease me and off I went to finish my afternoon uber shift. But as I approached soccer pickup, my head starting spinning… what will I bring… I can’t do donuts… I’ll be judged… I can’t bring Gatorade… I’m not capable of a cutesy, themed, over the top merch package for every child and their siblings… Why did I say yes? Right then it clicked. I was afraid to strike out on snack duty because I’m the “fat mom”. Earlier in the year we had a different drama, if you will, with my daughters lunch and shame about uncrustables, and I realized quickly it felt like a direct attack on our home, like our child came from parents who are overweight and therefore we are to blame for essentially giving them poison and setting them up for a life of (what many consider worse than anything) FATNESS. I come back to how it’s cute for my thin friends to drive through McDonald’s and get a Diet Coke and fries, but when I do it, it’s a problem and slovenly. The irony for me is that I believe deeply that allowing kids to have the “good stuff”, gives them the knowledge and power to not crave it or binge on it, and the same for us adults - a trip to the Golden Arches here and there - in moderation - is harmless. So in the true spirit of owning it, maybe I’ll lean in and bring cupcakes or cookies and they can all say, as the kids do, that Beau’s mom ATE! SLAY. LTKSeasonal LTKStyleTip
