This Spring— grow yourself some new plants for free by propagating cuttings in water! I like to propagate plants in these clear acrylic floral centerpieces (for weddings and decor for other occasions). Instead of putting in flowers, I fill the long rectangular planter with plant cuttings and water. Once they’ve grown 1-2” of roots you’re good to plant them! As much as I love having live houseplants around, certain decorative plants just don’t do do as well indoors.

So instead of trying to keep a real one alive, we opted for a faux olive tree to decorate the corner of our room that doesn’t get as much light.

We bought several plants but wanted to stretch the buck a bit further by picking up some free pieces we could propagate and grow new plants from for free. I love keeping succulents in shallow terra cotta planters. Shallow wide planters are ideal for plants that like to stay dry like cactus

POV: You picked up these pieces of various succulent plants for *FREE* at the store- anytime I’m at a nursery I look around on the ground or in the drop trays for pieces of succulents that have broken off of a succulent plant that is otherwise healthy. Most stores will let you keep these pieces for free and you can easily root them in cactus soil mix or perlite like I have here. They are happy in these shallow 5” terra cotta pots Boom! You’ve propagated free plants!

Need to give large plants a DEEP 💧 watering? I get a big job done with this super cute plant potting mat. It’s multi purpose because the plant mat catches any loose soil when I’m potting up plants in the springtime AND it can be used to catch any excess water from deeply watering houseplants!

A happy tropical houseplant needs to be ~throughly and deeply~ watered meaning watered until excess water is running out of the bottom of the pot. So a pot must have drainage holes for well draining soil, plants don’t like for their “feet” to stay wet.

When I’m done watering and have allowed the excess water to drain off, I take the plant off the mat and dump the water. The mat unsnaps flat and then you it up for storage! I love the iridescent effect of this holographic style mat

Yes! This is how to water large plants! The key to a good watering is a thorough one where the water is able to flow out of the drainage holes of the planter pot.

This large monstera deliciosa houseplant was ready for a good watering, so I put this handy roll up mat underneath it to catch any excess drainage.

It’s a pretty clear iridescent color, which I love, but the best part is definitely being able to water my plant without making a mess!

It’s ideal because this mat is intended for catching loose dirt from repotting plants, but the dual purpose of being able to use it for waterings is a huge plus!
