The key to styling a bar cart (or table) is curating practical yet pretty objects to fill it with — from colorful glassware to personalized napkins. Here’s some barware pieces that I love and how I’d use them.

Lately I’ve been saving tables set with candle holders and candelabras. They add so much drama - perfect for a Thanksgiving table. Here’s a round up of candle holders of various materials. To style, use a mix of colorful and plain taper candles and arrange down the table with tea lights or shorter candles - they don’t need to match!

I’m lucky I live in New York and get to pop into John Derian’s store often, but it’s so cool his whimsical style is now widely available via his Target collaboration. I love the color and charm of this Thanksgiving tableware and decor - here are my favorite pieces and how I’d use them.

Curations
Still Summer/Fall here in New York. Just when you think it’s going to turn, the temps go right back up. So I’ve settled on light weight pants and long sleeved body suit with mary janes.

A collection of objects to create an eclectic, maximalist look brimming with color and character. Layer coffee table books (or swap out for a tray) with unique home accents like candle holders, objets d’art, catch all dishes - swipe for styling inspiration.

A room outfit to style a cozy guest bedroom. A play on pattern adds visual interest but keeping it within a limited palette keeps it calm.

A Room Outfit to style a bathroom to feel like a cozy, inviting room. This includes accents you’d find in living spaces like a rug, art, and plant display. The addition of warm color is the cherry on top.

Mood Boards
Have guests staying with you this summer? I’ve curated decor and other thoughtful touches to create an inviting guest room they will remember for a long time to come. These items are all decorative AND functional including towels, robe, and throw for comfort, clothing and luggage racks and bedside water glass and carafe for convenience, cards for entertainment, in room coffee bar for ease, welcome basket and stocked bathroom for oh-shit-I-forgot (or didn’t-think-of) and flowers and scented candle just pure thoughtfulness.

Head on over to SenseofSpencer.com to see how to style them.

What if I told you these lamp shades were made out of vintage linen napkins? I used them to cover the pendant lights in my kitchen. If you want to try yourself, here are some linens that would make beautiful shades!

So excited to finally share Arlo’s nursery! Here are all the exact pieces (or comparable ones for vintage) including furniture, rug, lights and paint that I used to create this playful yet sophisticated room full of color and pattern.

I’ll do a follow up post at some point with all the little details too because they have almost as much of an impact as these big ones.

So pleased with my new tissue box cover - and it’s only $24!! Only regret is that it took me so long to get to it.

Here’s what you need to hang a plate. And this plate itself if you like it. Can you believe it’s H&M?

Very inspired by the handpainted lamp shades I’m seeing in England that are inspired by the artsy Bloomsbury look. I found some an Etsy with a few different designs/colors.

I love this light up star paper lantern so much last holiday I kept it up all year. This lantern and cord are from IKEA but I found similar on Amazon. I’d also recommend using a smart plug that’s Alexa enabled so you can turn it on my voice for an extra magic touch. 🌟

Everything I used to create my bar at home. Instead of a bar cart, I dressed up a cheap console table with a colorful patterned tablecloth. Then I styled it with beautiful accessories like vintage glassware, personalized coasters, and a lamp with a contrasting pop of color.

No skill necessary, $10 colorful lampshade DIY. All you need is embroidery thread in the colors of your choosing and a lampshade. This is a perfect way to upcycle a cheap thrifted lampshade, and I love how it can be customized to suit any style.

I’m linking all of the thread colors I used to create mine (there are a lot of shades to choose from so get these exact ones if you want to create the same look). I needed a total of 9 (across 5 colors) for a small lampshade (7” on the bottom, 4” at the top, height of 6”). I already had a hot glue gun, but if you don’t have one, you’ll need that too, and I promise you’ll find other uses for it.

Here’s everything you need to create these scalloped shelves! It’s such an easy DIY, and I love the playful custom detail and pop of color it’s added to my son’s nursery.

Note: I used IKEA’s Lack shelves 43”, but here’s another option from Amazon.
