Happy Birthday to me, and my favorite soda. Now I officially feel old and need to get my life together. Honestly, Dr. Pepper has been an addiction of mine for years; there is just something about the 23 flavors that feels like home to me. In fact, when I travel to the flyover states and the East Coast, my first order of business is to locate a crispy Dr. Pepper because it is sparsely stocked in stores. The 23 flavors felt fitting for the theme of my 23rd birthday, and this is the third year in a row that I have decorated my own birthday heart cake.

I’ve had two packages of puff pastry in my freezer forever and I knew I wanted to use them for a quick dessert. Well the @traderjoes apple pie filling and pumpkin butter felt so fitting for what I wanted to create. So I used some Halloween cookie cutters, to cut some fun shapes, layered some filling in the middle of two cutouts and topped with egg wash before baking. I completed the dessert by dusting some powdered sugar! Quick, simple and easy! 🎃

Russian Buttercream - Also known as condensed milk buttercream. It is made using unsalted butter, sweetened condensed milk, vanilla extract and salt. It has a light, sweet, creamy texture that makes it airy and easy to pipe.

Swiss Meringue Buttercream - It is made using egg whites, granulated sugar, unsalted butter, vanilla extract, and salt. It has a very light, sweet, smooth, creamy texture that makes it super airy and very easy to pipe.

The differences between American Buttercream, Russian Buttercream, and Swiss Meringue Buttercream are the process to make each and the baker’s preference when it comes to taste.
