6 Spring Trends I’m Leaving Behind
(And What I’m Wearing Instead)

This isn’t about playing it safe or rejecting any styles.
It’s about knowing myself and giving each trend the 3-second-test. Trusting my gut.

Some trends fit me.
Some don’t.
And that’s the power of being 50+. 👇

1️⃣ Butter Yellow:

I love it on others. On my skin tone, it washes me out.

✨ Instead: warm ivory, soft cream, or a saturated pink that brings life to my face.

2️⃣ Woven or Jelly Shoes that show your foot:

Jelly flats and fully woven shoes feel heavy on me.

✨ Instead: a sleek sandal, slingback, or minimalist leather flat that feels lighter and more elevated.

3️⃣ Lace Trim Satin Shorts:

I appreciate the editorial vibe. But lace tap shorts read too young and costume-y on me. I love how the 20-somethings pair these with chunky sweaters. There would have been a time…

✨ Instead: tailored shorts, relaxed linen trousers, or premium denim with texture.

4️⃣Polka-dots:

Larger dots feel busy and childish on me. I try over and over, but I think I’m done.

✨ Instead: subtle stripes, soft florals, or animal print in a refined scale.

5️⃣Short, fitted, Jackie O Cardigans:

They remind me of business casual office days. I just can’t NOT feel like I’m going to work in the 90s. (Yes, I know that’s a double negative.) I loved eork, but just can’t feel fun in one of these.

✨ Instead: longer-line knits, relaxed cardigans, or structured blazers with a little edge.

6️⃣ Scarf Tops

I need to feel secure and comfortable. A scarf top wouldn’t let me relax into my day.

✨ Instead: silk blouses, drapey tanks, or a scarf tied on a bag or in my hair.

Trends aren’t bad.
They’re just not all mine.

At this stage, I don’t wear something because it’s everywhere.
I wear it because it works — for my body, my lifestyle, my confidence.

Some trends stretch us in a good way.
Some we leave behind.

That’s discernment. Not fear.

I surprised myself…
This little challenge is really fun. I wore a sweater yesterday that I hadn’t even taken the tags off of yet. I don’t make that a habit, but it did happen. Surprisingly to me, I’ve gotten rid of a ton of stuff. There is something about shopping my closet that is helping me identify or discover my true style. I know what I want my style to be this summer and I’m actually planning my purchases. This has always been more of an impulsive approach. This is totally new for me! I’m on Day 38 and I feel like my options are expanding instead of shrinking. Hard to explain, but true.
