Women in NYC have been utilizing capsule wardrobes before they were even a thing. And the most common color is black.

Here is why:

1. It looks good on everyone and is effortlessly chic

2. The grime of the city (rain, snow sleet) won’t show. NYC is a fun city and has some of the best views. But it’s a dirty city compared to Paris, London or Palm Beach.

3. New York women typically have small closets. So we choose black as a great base that can pair easily with other neutral colors - tans, creams, grays, beige, camel and navy.

4. Black instantly looks expensive and can hold up over long days.

5. And lastly, when someone bumps into you while you’re drinking your coffee at 8am, and still have to look chic by 8pm, black is not a choice — it’s a survival strategy.
