I’ve learned that motherhood isn’t just a season you “get through” or something that has a certain end date.

It feels more like a transformation that never ends. They grow, you grow. They enter a new stage, so do you. You don’t wake up and become the “old you” again because she no longer exists, and that’s okay 🫶🏼

Are you a relaxing Sunday person or a productive Sunday person? I did a little of both this week, got the grocery shop done (that video has been posted already!) AND was able to go get a facial. The facial turned into a little nap but you know what that was necessary 😂

If you can turn it into a game, you can prevent a meltdown for almost anything

When exposing my kids to new foods I always include familiar foods I already know they love and only ONE new food at a time. I don’t put any pressure on them to eat it, but I will encourage a very serious crunch competition 😂

Overall I think this was worth it! Felt super glowy the next day, a little sensitive but I feel like that’s normal considering what I just did? But whoever was in charge of targeting me for that ad did a great job 😂

Why do we feel so guilty and anxious when we leave our kids with someone else to go work or run errands or whatever?? 😅

That ticking clock that keeps track of how long you’ve been away for your kids can get so loud and make it hard to even focus on what you’re doing.

But maybe we don’t actually have to think this way, and maybe we are allowed to enjoy time away from the kids without guilt or without that internal clock ticking away.

Stopping to get lunch in between clients instead of rushing home was one of the best things I’ve done for myself recently and I challenge you to do the same next time you get the opportunity 🫶🏼

The Christmas cards get thrown out. They grow out of the matching Christmas pajamas. They don’t remember the Christmas parades.

But they CAN feel your stress and your overwhelm. How magical can a holiday party or a visit with Santa really be if you’re stressed the entire time before, during, and after?

Social media shows everyone’s highlights so it can easily look and feel like you’re the only mom not doing the photos or the parades or the matching sweaters. But you’re not, and you don’t have to do ANY of those things to have a magical holiday season with your kids ✨

The real magic is in your time spent with them, that’s it.

When every meal results in screaming and stress, it’s easy to pull the “just one more bite” line as an act of desperation 😅

But as a pediatric OT + feeding specialist, I KNOW better! I know it’s not a long term solution, it’s more like a bandaid strategy.

Two strategies we’re using over here instead of “just one more bite”:
• Getting the kids involved in the kitchen and having them help me bake and cook
• Using the food alphabet book and letting them pick a fruit/veggie from the book that we’ll then get at the store to try in multiple ways

I don’t judge you at ALL for using the “just one more bite” line, so don’t feel bad if that’s been your go to for picky eating battles. I get it 🫶🏼

My 2 year old started deleting preferred foods and becoming more selective than ever. So I was feeling like we needed a mealtime reset, to get her interested and excited again.

It was feeling stressful and pressurized to “just take 1 more bite” but as a feeding therapist I know that’s not the best strategy. So I used one I know WORKS!

GET👏THEM👏INVOLVED!

When you get your child involved in the kitchen, they are more likely to become interested in what is being served at the table! Have them chop, stir, pour, crush, anything! Make it “theirs!”

So we made “Addi’s cornbread muffins” last night for dinner. She’s never had cornbread before, and we made them into muffins because they are similar shaped to something we LOVE (cupcakes)

As you can see, she was so excited to try her very own recipe, for the first time! 🫶🏼

You can’t use picky eating strategies for toddlers on kids older than 5 and expect the same results 📝

The brain of a 5 year old is much different than the brain of a 3 year old so any behavior strategies you use need to be age appropriate, especially when it comes to picky and problem eating.

As a pediatric occupational therapist and feeding specialist, I approach picky eating in older kids much differently than the toddlers I work with.
