The first time I turned the camera on myself, I almost turned it back off.

There I was — cellulite on my legs, catching the light. A little meno belly pooch that no amount of sucking in was hiding. Arms that jiggle when I wave. Not a filter in sight.

I’m 54. A survivor. I’ve raised kids, buried the version of myself that used to exist before all of it, and somewhere in there I stopped looking in mirrors on purpose.

But I hit record anyway.

And you showed up. Not the size 00 girls. You. The size 10 woman who’s been hiding in the “flattering” angle, the good lighting, the caption that apologizes before anyone even asked. You saw your own arms in mine. Your own belly. Your own soft, lived-in, survived-something body. And you told me so — over and over, in comments, in DMs, in messages that made me cry at my kitchen table.

So here’s what I’ve learned: showing up isn’t about a before-and-after. It’s not a crazy fitness journey. It’s a walk most mornings. Some weights, some yoga, some days neither. It’s a real outfit instead of the same tunic sweater for the fourth day running. Small, daily dedication — to feeling good, not to looking a certain way.

Surviving cancer taught me that this body is not the enemy. It’s the whole point.

If you’ve been waiting for permission to hit record, to get dressed with intention, to walk out the door and let yourself shine exactly as you are — this is it.

You’re not alone in that mirror. I’m standing right there with you.
