I have been hard at work with the new Nobu Residences (aka Avenue Bellevue), so I am fully immersed in that wabi-sabi design style but I am keeping it transitional and I am all in with this one! Wabi-sabi says: embrace the imperfect. the handmade bowl with the uneven edge. The linen that wrinkles exactly how it wants to; nothing forced, nothing too polished. Transitional says: let’s keep it livable. classic lines, a little symmetry, furniture that makes sense for actual life. So when I put them together you get rooms that feel soulful and approachable, texture-rich without going full minimalist-monk on you. Picture this: a curved sofa in nubby boucle, a raw-edge wood coffee table, soft neutral walls, one perfectly imperfect ceramic vase. This is the style for anyone who loves the calm of wabi-sabi but still wants their living room to feel like, well, a living room. Let me know what element are you stealing first. Can we talk about the fifth wall for a second? Because after 20 years of design, I’m convinced the ceiling is the most ignored surface in your entire house, and it’s dying for some attention.

Swipe through for seven ways to give your ceiling a job to do:

Wood stained: warm, rich, and instantly cozy. Zero paint required.

Hardwood flooring: yes, on the ceiling, and yes it’s stunning.

Painted in a contrasting color: the easiest, cheapest, most dramatic option on this whole list.

Wood beam ceilings, painted or stained: keep the architecture, and show it off.

Tongue and groove, shiplap: texture that makes a flat ceiling feel intentional.

Coffered: the “I have a decorator” flex without saying a word.

Wallpaper: because your ceiling deserves a moment too.

Moral of the story: don’t stop at the crown molding. Your ceiling is prime real estate so enjoy bringing it to life!

You loved our recent post on our client’s Nancy Meyers home update, so we thought we would show let you know how to bring the Nancy Meyers magic outside 🤍 think climbing roses, herringbone brick, and a front door that makes you want to move in before you even step through it.

For the entry, we leaned into that “welcome home” feeling — layered lanterns, a boxwood hedge trimmed just so, and a vintage-inspired door knocker that does all the talking. It’s the kind of entrance that makes you slow down before you even get inside.

Then the backyard! This is where the magic really happens; a bistro table set for two, string lights strung overhead, and enough greenery to make you forget you’re in the city. It’s giving long dinners, good wine, and conversations that go way past midnight.

We creating something that goes from “nice house” to “someone’s living their best life here” — that’s the Nancy Meyers effect ✨

I was recently asked by a client to help her transform her home with a Nancy Meyers aesthetic. After careful thought, here is what we did:

Warm neutrals, never stark white or gray

A big, lived-in white kitchen with a marble island that’s actually used

Layered textures — linen, wicker, worn wood, nothing too polished

Added floor-to-ceiling built-ins, because bookshelves are a personality trait

Put fresh flowers on basically every surface

Created a window seat and reading nook that begs for a rainy afternoon

Blue and white china, collected not matched

We created a palette of warm, creamy neutrals. A kitchen so inviting you forget it’s for cooking, anchored by a marble island. Layers of natural texture and linen, wicker, and worn wood that make a room feel collected, not staged. Millwork that runs floor to ceiling, because a home with books feels like a home with a story. Fresh flowers, in every room, always. A window seat that exists purely for slowing down. And blue-and-white china, gathered over years, never bought as a set.

A Welcoming Entryway

Your entryway is the first impression of your home, so let’s make it actually impressive. ✨

Start with lighting that stops people in their tracks. A chandelier or sconces aren’t a luxury, they’re a requirement. Then anchor the whole thing with a console table, something with personality! Next up, an oversized mirror above it. Bigger than you think. Yes, that big.

Layer in a rug that’s beautiful and tough enough to handle real life traffic. Add a lamp or a tall vessel to ground the table, then let a few carefully chosen accessories do the talking. I recommend a few of your favorite things, the ones that say this is who lives here.

If you have the square footage, a basket for storage is a non-negotiable. Clutter is not a personality trait.

On the art question: if you go mirror, you get light and the illusion of space which is a win-win. If you go art, keep it minimalist. You want intrigue because less is more here.

And the final touch? Seasonal accessories. A simple swap every few months keeps the space feeling alive and intentional.

This is the space that greets you every single day. It deserves the effort.

Black and white. Still my one of my favorite duos!🖤🤍

Yes! Yes! Warmer palettes are having a moment, and honestly, they’re beautiful. But I keep finding myself drawn back to this combination, and as a designer, I think I finally know why.

Black and white isn’t a color story. It’s a structure story. It’s about contrast, proportion, and the way light moves through a space. Get those things right and the result is undeniable.

What makes it feel current rather than cold is all in the layering; a warm-toned marble with dramatic veining, brass hardware, natural wood floors, linen and bouclé textiles. Suddenly you’re not looking at a stark palette. You’re looking at a room with real depth and intention.

The same principle translates directly to how I dress. A structured black vest, a fluid white skirt, two-tone slingbacks. The outfit does exactly what a well-designed room does, it excludes confidence and style.

Trends move. Timeless style doesn’t. So, if you’re drawn to warmer palettes right now, I support that! But if you are still loving this high contrast color way, I’d encourage you not to abandon it altogether. A little black goes a long way. But it can be fabulous!

Let’s talk vanities — because custom isn’t always the answer ✨

I know, I know. as a designer I’m supposed to say go custom every time. but honestly, some of my favorite bathroom transformations have started with a store-bought vanity and here’s why that’s not a compromise, it’s a strategy.

The secret is knowing where to shop and my go-to’s are Pottery Barn, West Elm, Ferguson, Crate & Barrel, AllModern, Anthropologie, and yes….Home Depot (don’t sleep on it). These brands are doing the work. solid construction, thoughtful proportions, finishes that actually hold up.

But here’s the designer truth: what makes a vanity look custom isn’t where it came from, it is what you do with it. The hardware you swap in, the mirror you hang above it, the sconces you flank it with, and the tile you lay beneath it. That is where the magic happens!

So before you spend 3x the budget on a custom build, swipe through and let me show you what’s possible right off the shelf.

Van Deusen Blue by Benjamin Moore is a navy that means business.

Rich, grounded, and just the right amount of moody, this one has a soft gray undertone that keeps it from feeling too harsh or too nautical. It works beautifully on accent walls, kitchen cabinets, and front doors.

Pair it with crisp white trim for something clean and classic, or bring in warm wood tones and brass hardware for a look that feels layered and timeless.

It’s the kind of color that walks into a room and just owns it.
