They say blue is having a moment, but I say it has never not been the color of the moment. After creating a million paint plans, I can tell you honestly that blue is the one color that works everywhere; a kitchen, a mudroom, or your home’s exterior without even breaking a sweat.

Navy is for the classic soul who wants drama that still behaves. A killer pair of jeans or a mud room that stores everything but is still completely stylish.

Smoky Blue is the friend who is effortlessly cool and somehow always looks put together. It’s that beautiful silk skirt or a custom vanity in your bathroom.

Dusty Blue is pure calm, the one you want in a laundry room, nursery or a breezy linen shirt.

Six steps. One living room. Let’s go!

I did this one backwards. I should have showed you when we moved into our temporary home how to furnish a space quickly so you can feel at home from day one. But it is never too late because empty rooms can be intimidating. And here is the secret, it isn’t about a bigger budget. It's about finding the right pieces both scale and style. Here's how I furnished my own living room, one click at a time.

Rug: The foundation. Go bigger than you think. Front legs of the sofa on it, minimum.

Art: Yes, before the sofa. Let it set the palette for everything that follows.

Sectional: The workhorse. Comfort first, then size it to your room, not the showroom.

Coffee table: About 18 inches from the sofa. Close enough for your wine, far enough for your knees.

Pillows: This is where the personality lives. Mix scale and texture, not just color.

Accessories: Edit, edit, edit. A few pieces that look beautiful beat a shelf full of filler.

This is your permission to go bold!

White trim is lovely, but it is also a little boring, and I'm allowed to say that after 20 years of painting rooms for a living.

Contrast trim is the move if you want a room to feel bold instead of just "safe." It frames doors and windows like art instead of ignoring them. Here's what's working right now:

Brown Trim: Warm, grounding, makes white walls feel intentional

Green Trim: Unexpected, botanical, reads collected not trendy

Blue Trim: Crisp without being cold, plays well with wood tones

Black Trim: The most graphic option, not for the faint of heart

Taupe Trim: The quiet flex, elevated without shouting

Pick the one that scares you a little. That's usually the right one. Try it in one room and see what you think. I swear it might just be the game changer you are seeking!

Terracotta gets filed under "earthy accent" and I'm here to correct the record. This is a full-blown design color. Walls, cabinet, tile, and your fall wardrobe. This color can hold its own everywhere it shows up.

It reads warm without going orange, grounded without going brown. Pair it with cream and it feels like Tuscany. Pair it with black and it feels current. That range is why I keep coming back to it for my fall wardrobe and a beautiful powder room moment.

I have been hard at work with the new Nobu Residences (aka Avenue Bellevue), so I am fully immersed in that wabi-sabi design style but I am keeping it transitional and I am all in with this one!

Wabi-sabi says: embrace the imperfect. the handmade bowl with the uneven edge. The linen that wrinkles exactly how it wants to; nothing forced, nothing too polished.

Transitional says: let’s keep it livable. classic lines, a little symmetry, furniture that makes sense for actual life.

So when I put them together you get rooms that feel soulful and approachable, texture-rich without going full minimalist-monk on you.

Picture this: a curved sofa in nubby boucle, a raw-edge wood coffee table, soft neutral walls, one perfectly imperfect ceramic vase. This is the style for anyone who loves the calm of wabi-sabi but still wants their living room to feel like, well, a living room.

You loved our recent post on our client’s Nancy Meyers home update, so we thought we would show let you know how to bring the Nancy Meyers magic outside 🤍 think climbing roses, herringbone brick, and a front door that makes you want to move in before you even step through it.

For the entry, we leaned into that “welcome home” feeling — layered lanterns, a boxwood hedge trimmed just so, and a vintage-inspired door knocker that does all the talking. It’s the kind of entrance that makes you slow down before you even get inside.

Then the backyard! This is where the magic really happens; a bistro table set for two, string lights strung overhead, and enough greenery to make you forget you’re in the city. It’s giving long dinners, good wine, and conversations that go way past midnight.
