How to Layer a Bed like a Designer

Layering a bed like a designer is all about creating depth, texture, and intention.

Start with crisp, high-quality sheets and a tailored coverlet or quilt as the foundation. Add a duvet or comforter that brings softness and volume, then fold it down slightly to reveal the layers beneath.

Next, build your pillow story: sleeping pillows in beautiful shams and/or cases, followed by one or two larger Euro pillows for height, and finish with one or two smaller decorative pillows or a lumbar for personality.

The key is mixing materials—linen, cotton, velvet, or boucle—and keeping the palette cohesive so the bed feels inviting, relaxed, and quietly luxurious rather than over-styled.

Say hello to my favorite hue! Oh how I love using this in my design work - Black isn’t just dark and moody - it is disciplined. In both interiors and fashion, black is the element that brings structure, contrast, and quiet authority. A black window frame sharpens a view. A black island grounds a kitchen. A black lamp, coffee table, or cabinet detail creates intention. Just like the perfect black blazer or little black dress, it refines everything around it.

The key is restraint and placement. A touch of black adds depth. Repetition of black adds rhythm. And when layered thoughtfully — with warm woods, creamy whites, natural stone, or soft textiles — it feels anything but harsh. It feels confident. If your space (or outfit) feels flat, it may not need more… it may just need black. 🖤

O Christmas Tree!
I went from four trees in my home last year to just one smaller tree this year, so I knew I needed to make it special. That said, I dressed up our tree by putting it into a fun white sphere pot from @crateandbarrel and added some pretty silver spheres from @cb2! I love how it turned out. Next up - decorating the tree!🎄

Who needs a bar or coffee station for the holidays?! I did and I love this sweet affordable find! With pretty fluted doors and a handle-free push to open design, it was the perfect choice. It is just under 50” so it fits almost anywhere and super easy to assemble (thanks David!).
