So many of you asked when and how we transitioned my toddler from the crib to big boy bed, so here’s Part 2. 💙 Before we ever transitioned from a crib to a floor bed, we taught him an ok-to-wake routine using our Hatch. About 6 months before the transition: 🔴 Red means= stay in bed 🟢 Green means= get up and go Every morning, when he woke up, the low red light would be on (I programmed it automatically for 6a) I’d watch the monitor and wait until he was ready to get up. Then I’d turn the Hatch green and walk into his room a few seconds later. Over time, he learned: 🧸 Green light means Mom or Dad is coming 🧸 Green light means it’s time to start the day 🧸 Red light means stay safe in bed By the time we moved him from his crib to a floor bed, the routine was already second nature. Now whether it’s bedtime, nap time, or early morning, he usually wakes up, cuddles his stuffies, relaxes in bed, and waits for the green light. 🥹 And before anyone asks 😉… If he needs us, he knows he can call for us at any time. We aren’t using the light to ignore him. It’s simply a visual cue that helped create consistency, independence and safety. Every child is different, and this may not work for every family, but it has worked beautifully for ours.
