4 ways to wear double denim in 2024

1. Create a visual break between the top and bottom. This can be through a little peak of midriff, or with an accessory like a belt (an accessory is usually my preference, but I was feeling adventurous today)💁🏼‍♀️
2. Match your denim as closely as possible. This in my opinion is one of the chicest ways to pull of the Canadian tux. 👖👖
3. Go in pairs with accessories and the odd man out (see comments for more details). Or match all of your accessories for a very minimalist vibe.👠🎒👡👜🥿🧢
4. Look for interesting details in your pairings. Example: oversized top + full length bottoms, cargo pockets, cropped denim jackets with rounded collars or curved hemlines etc.💫

Here we are on the last tip of the series and I've saved the best for last. #🔟 Elevated everyday style comes from wearing your clothes with confidence.

Okay so if you used all the tips from the series you would definitely feel more confident in your outfits (I know I have), but there are a few more tips I want to share here on confidence:

1. Harnessing what you need to feel today, not just outfits that have worked in the past. 💁🏼‍♀️

- Think about what you need out of your outfit when you get dressed ex comfort, boldness, sass, edge, vibrancy, etc

2. Changing up one thing in your most loved outfits to make them feel fresh✌🏻

3. Make an effort with your hair and makeup 💄💋

- switching up one thing if it feels off (playing with the texture of your hair, up or down, trying makeup you don’t normally play with)

4. Layering your jewelry (okay yes you caught me, this was one of the tips in the style series) 💍

- I’m re-emphasizing because good jewelry makes even a tee look super put together, and is a mega confidence boost

5. Lastly but most importantly: Your self-talk. 🤗

- If you do one thing for the care of yourself everyday I hope that you speak kindly to yourself when you look at yourself in the mirror (and I’m not just talking about your looks) speak something true and loving to yourself everyday. I believe this is the biggest thing you can do to impact your confidence. 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻

Tip #9️⃣ in my elevated everyday style series is to - take the time to identify the exact basics you are pulling for consistently and make sure that you don’t just have one, but multiple of the same item, in many different cuts.👚👚👚

This may sound obvious, but the moment I started adding more of the basics I actually wear in my wardrobe, and stopped following someone else’s list of the basics I should have, the way I used my wardrobe changed. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

You’ll see that every outfit I have worn in this 10 tip style series has featured some sort of white tee, a basic I cannot live without in my wardrobe. And even though I don’t wear one in every outfit, I so often wear one that it is a pattern I have noted and worked on in my wardrobe. 💃🏼

So ditch the idea that you need to have and check off a whole laundry list of basics in your wardrobe to make it function. What you actually need is more of the same basics that you consistently pull for. ✌🏻

Complete game changer - you’ll see!

Here’s how to implement:
Step one: Take note of the basics that you consistently pull for
Step two: Note how often you pull for them
Step three: Note the current cuts you have in that specific category that are working for you and ones that aren’t – for instance, I need more white boxy cropped tees as opposed to classic body-skimming tees right now
Step four: Add enough of the category so that you can wear (with ease) all the outfits you need for at least a week:)

Back from Seattle (the sweetest getaway), and back to more styling tips💁🏼‍♀️. Today I’m sharing tip #8️⃣ in my style series - elevating your everyday style comes from playing with proportions and learning what works best for you.

It isn’t always easy figuring out what proportions look right on you or help you feel your best, and there are many schools of thought for how you arrive at this knowledge. My line of thinking though is that you should dress in what you want to dress in, and learn how to finesse those things to work for you and your body type as opposed to just following the rules of what you “should” or “shouldn’t” wear.💃🏼

Here are a few outfit proportions worth experimenting with:
- Fitted on top + Loose on bottom
- Loose on top + Fitted on bottom
- Oversized on top + Oversized on bottom
- Fitted on top + Fitted on bottom (this doesn’t have to mean skinny, just fitted through the waist and hips)
- Boxy cropped (waist length) on top + Wide-leg high-rise on bottom
- Shorter skirt or shorts on bottom + Fitted first layer on top + Looser second layer on top
- Fitted long skirt on bottom + Looser boxy on top
- Shorter short on bottom + Looser on top

Back with more styling tips on this rainy friday. #7️⃣ elevating your everyday style comes from layering with intention. 🧥

I’ve found that layering is so key when it comes to taking your outfit to another level (and I don’t just mean with a jacket, because sometimes it’s too warm to wear one). In today’s outfit I am highlighting the middle layer - a great way to add interest to your outfits when you are wearing a coat or jacket that you take off indoors.💁🏼‍♀️

Adding a middle layer to a very simple outfit (ex. denim + a tee) helps keep interest in an outfit even when you lose the coat. And I love that!😊 Here are a few examples of middle layers that layer well under coats:

-cardigans
-sweaters
-vests
-blazers
-button downs
-coat liners

I’m talking lots of different ways to layer on the blog today, if you feel like hopping over there. Layering in the warmer and cooler months too!

Last note - included several Khaite dupe belts linked below. I have one of them and LOVE it. Took it in a size small. Wearing a M in the vest, XS in the trench, M in the ribbed tee.

Elevating your Everyday Style Tip #6. If you are feeling like your fit is just falling flat, one of my favorite ways to elevate it is by adding contrasting pieces.

Here are a few examples:
- Wearing something sporty or athleisure add something classic or dressy👟➕🧥
- Wearing something feminine add something masculine or sporty 👗➕👟
- Wearing something casual add something dressy 👖➕👡
- Wearing something busy/patterned add something minimal 👔➕👡

Todays fit was feeling a little flat with just a sweatshirt since I am wearing track pants and sneakers, so I elevated the whole look by throwing on two smart/dressier pieces (the blazer and the statement glasses). Something tells me one more layering piece or a pop of color would have done even more, but it was an excellent upgrade - proving once again that you can do a lot to an outfit by just changing a few small things!💁🏼‍♀️

a quick note that I’ve found helpful through the years📝
-statement doesn’t have to mean dressy
-statement doesn’t have to mean impractical
-statement doesn’t have to just be one thing
-but statement can also mean all of the above

its fun to look at things from two sides of the coin😎

A few ways I love playing with the idea of “statement” ☺️
-through contrasting ideas - wearing all dressy throw on something casual/sporty
-through color pops - wearing all neutrals or black and white throw on color
-through texture - wearing all one color or all black add an item with a different fabric
-through accessories -wearing all basics add a chunky earring, or a bag with personality

Back with more style tips today in my style series 10 Tips for Elevated Everyday Style! Tip #4 is that even the most casual outfits are elevated from adding unique jewelry to your outfit.

This may seem like an obvious tip, but I used to feel like I would run out the door without giving the jewelry department a second thought, and now that I have built several jewelry combinations for my everyday outfits, I feel like the outfit is really lacking without them.

A few quick thoughts on adding jewelry to elevate your everyday style:
- Don’t go too simple here. If you are wearing a super casual outfit, a one-and-done small piece of jewelry isn’t going to quite lift the look enough
- Opt for layering necklaces, multiple rings, or statement earrings, or if you are like me in this look, try all three at the same time!
- Don’t be afraid of wearing gold and silver pieces together. This is such a fresh thing to do that feels very of the moment.

Today I’m here with the third styling tip in my style series “10 Tips for Elevated Everyday Style”.

Tip #3 is how you can use color to elevate your everyday style. I am not going to go into all the facets of color right now, but if you are someone who wears a lot of neutrals or black and white, adding some color in can really give your overall appearance a bump in the best way.

Today I wore color in 3 different ways that I have found really elevates an outfit without fully committing to an all colorful look:

1. First I used subdued color as another neutral that created interest and contrast to my outfit (I did this with my jacket). Using a more subdued color like olive or army green, or navy can add some interest to your outfit without reading as “added color” or a “statement” to your outfit.
2. Next I added a pop of color with my bag, another great way to liven a look
3. And lastly I added color with my shoes. Colorful accessories, like shoes, socks, hats, etc, is another very subtle way to add some interest to your fits in a way that feels very playful.

Okay this may be an obvious thing to say but hear me out. Figuring out if you “feel your best” in an item takes time, and isn’t always clear when you initially bring it home and try it on with things. 🫠🫠
.
In the past, I would have said that those “not sure” pieces are just no’s, but I have learned that when you try on something, it is possible to really love the item but also not fully feel like yourself in it, and that can come from not knowing how to style it or the item not suiting your frame or personality. But regardless of where the uncertainty is coming from, sometimes it takes wearing that item many times before you really know if you feel your best in it or not, and most importantly, why.✨

So the take away? Always take note of something that feels off, see if styling it differently can change the way you feel in it, and if not give yourself time to identify what is it is that feels off about something instead of rushing to the fix immediately. This over time will give you a clearer picture of what you feel good in and what isn’t working. And the result will be feeling better and better in your clothes over time! elevating your everyday style is understanding that elevated style does not necessarily mean wearing dressier outfits altogether. An example of this would be changing from leggings to denim or from sneakers to boots or flats. ✨

Will wearing dressier pieces elevate your everyday clothes, of course! But I have found that you can still elevate your outfits on casual days without completely changing into a more dressed-up look by wearing details that feel special to you, or by swapping something like a legging for a pant that has the same comfort/dressiness level, but feels a little bit more polished.💅🏻
