Here’s some of my top spots to travel to, using minimal PTO!

Europe from NYC/BOS is not “far.” It’s one red-eye and a decent sleep mask away. Here are 6 of the shortest routes — with a 🔥 Hot tip: for each 👇

🇮🇸 Reykjavik, Iceland (~5–6 hrs)
Glaciers, waterfalls, geothermal everything.
🔥 Hot tip: Go straight from the airport to a lagoon, shower, reset your clock, and push through the first day. Do not nap.

🇵🇹 Azores (~5 hrs from Boston)
Crater lakes, thermal springs, dramatic cliffs.
🔥 Hot tip: Rent the car. The best viewpoints and hidden hot springs are not tour-bus accessible.

🇮🇪 Dublin (~5.5–6 hrs from Boston)
Walkable, friendly, easy Europe entry point.
🔥 Hot tip: Take the DART train to Howth for a coastal cliff walk — 30 minutes and it feels completely different from the city.

🇬🇧 Edinburgh (~6 hrs seasonal)
Castles, cobblestones, Highlands energy.
🔥 Hot tip: Book one small-group Highlands tour early in your trip. The scenery is the real showstopper.

🇵🇹 Lisbon (~6 hrs from Boston)
Tiles, trams, rooftop wine.
🔥 Hot tip: Stay slightly outside the busiest tourist blocks (Alfama/Principe Real). You’ll sleep better and still walk everywhere.

🇫🇷 Paris (~6–6.5 hrs from NYC)
Cafés, museums, long Seine walks.
🔥 Hot tip: Choose one arrondissement per day and linger. Paris rewards slow mornings, not packed itineraries.

✨ Check out my other carousels for other spots (5-6 hour flights) but these are a little further (what’s one more hour for the south of France!) 🇫🇷 so let’s start!

Here are 5 direct flights from BOS/NYC I’d actually book this spring:

☀️ Athens, Greece
Sun and acropolis sunsets …. Island ferry on Monday when the crowds thin. Ancient drama + beach energy. All the Greek men 😘

🌊 Barcelona, Spain
Beach + Gaudí + tapas in one walkable city. For me, it’s the rooftop bars and the inexpensive shopping & hotels.

🌋 Azores (Ponta Delgada)
5 hours from Boston. Waterfalls, crater lakes, hot springs. Wild nature, minimal jet lag. If you’ve been to Iceland, this is next on your list!

🇫🇷 Nice, France
Mediterranean light hits different. Promenade walks, day trip to Èze, rosé by the water…. Maybe a day trip to Monaco?! 🇲🇨

🇩🇰 Copenhagen, Denmark
Clean Nordic spring energy. Bikes, bakeries, harbor swims. Calm, polished, easy. Plenty of English speakers. ✨

How to structure it: Landing day for coffee, happy hour and spas if you are planning any relaxation times.
One big activity.
One tour.
The rest = wandering + eating.

Just remember - No naps. Push through.
Adrenaline of being in Europe + espresso will carry you, I promise!

No summer break? Me neither!
Here’s exactly what I’d book if I had 5 PTO days this summer — and where I’d stay.

✨ Memorial Day – Block Island
🗓 May 23–26 (1 PTO day)

First time? Book the classic @blockislandbeachhouse near town. It’s a rite of passage.Been before or want more quiet? Skip the center and grab a group Airbnb further out.

🌊Laze on the cliffs. Do a proper mudslide hop…. by Monday lunch time you’ll be able to wander to those untouched stretches of beach where you won’t see anyone for hours. It’s unreal here.

✨ Fire Island – midweek magic
🗓 June 21–23 (2 PTO days)

✨ If you’ve never been to Fire Island, just go. You’ll get it the moment you arrive on that wide open beach.

✨Places are small and pricey, I would stay in Ocean Bay Area, skip over to the pines and cherry grove for some fun nights!

✨ FYI, if you didn’t know, Fire Island is is the iconic summer getaway for LGBTQIA communities. It’s super family friendly, and the different areas go from wild day dance parties to wading pools and full family energy! 🌊

🌊Open ocean. No cars. Boardwalk mornings.
It feels like you left to paradise.

✨ July 4th – Westbrook, CT
🗓 July 3–5 (0 PTO days)

Stay at @watersedgeresortandspa - I’ve stayed here on repeat and once you get a waterfront villa… there’s no going back!

✨ Late August – Lake Placid
🗓 August 21–23 (0 PTO days)

Stay at @bluebirdhotels Lake Placid

One-minute walk downtown. Quiet. Gorgeous renovation. That air is healing. ❤️‍🩹

✨ Labor Day – Acadia Maine
🗓 September 3–7 (2 PTO days)

Stay at Holiday Inn Resort Bar Harbor - Acadia Natl Park.

Waterfront. Super heated pool + hot tub.
Almost to have that resort energy for Maine — and I love it.
Crisp air. Incredible hiking.
🥾 Sunset over sunrise at Cadillac mountain - just drive down a little and enjoy the gorgeous sunset rather than from the summit where it is more blocked (summit is for sunrise!)

Total PTO used: 5 days, 5 weekends. All planned out!

✨ Comment more if you want alternate options, save and share with someone who has decision fatigue! 🤦‍♀️

If you’re already packing for 3–4 nights somewhere warm… you could just keep flying!

Lisbon instead of Miami.
Porto instead of Naples.
Barcelona instead of Orlando.
Dublin instead of Key West.
Azores instead of Marco Island.

All direct from the Northeast. ✈️ All completely doable for a 3–4 night long weekend if you leave Thursday night and come back Monday. And they’ll be less expensive than Florida, I guarantee you!

✨These aren’t “two-week Europe trips.” They’re strategic escapes. Shoulder season wins. Little moments to revive yourself… with 3 euro wine and 90 dollar hotels!

✨Florida will still be there next year. But a long weekend in Portugal? That hits differently.
