My daughter and I have enjoyed giving special focus to these reads this month. These books highlight achievements and struggles—those that aren’t always covered in standard school texts. For Black children, seeing themselves and their communities reflected in books is empowering and affirming. For all children, learning about diverse Black leaders, scientists, artists, and historical figures builds appreciation and respect for different backgrounds. blackhistorymonth scholastic
