Consideration is one of the highest forms of love.

I don’t think men are naturally considerate. There is a certain level of selfishness that comes with the territory. That SAME selfishness gives them access to some of the economic advantages that we expect and enjoy. Capitalism rewards selfishness. That doesn’t mean that men can’t be considerate but it does mean that you may not be able to expect it without a little guidance and support.

🎅🏾 My dad never filled my moms stocking and I honestly never thought to fill hers until one Christmas she said, “nobody thought to put something in mine”. My dad didn’t grow up witnessing that kind of consideration and so he couldn’t model it for us. This is a place where the village could help lead. Reach out to your married brothers and male cousins. Help them show their wives something that may have never been shown to them.

💅🏽When my husband didn’t fill mine, I filled my own. Sure it doesn’t feel the same but I made sure he paid a pretty price. Consiseration is priceless but luxury goods are too bad.

And then one year….
He will just get it. Without being asked. Without being told. Without being led. If it hasn’t happened already, I hope it happens this year.
