I turned 56 last week, and I like getting dressed more now than I did at 36.
And the reason is so simple. It's because I stopped dressing how I thought I was SUPPOSED to, and started dressing how I wanted to.
Nothing magical. Just a mindset shift.
I wear what feels like me. I don't care whether something is “age appropriate". I care how I feel in the outfit and if it reflects my style.
That has made getting dressed a whole lot more fun.

Wide leg jeans at 56: yes or no? My husband already voted no 😂
He definitely has his opinion, so I'm not wearing them on date night, rather to lunch with a friend (although I certainly could wear them for date night and he'd be fine 🤣).
The trick with wide legs at our age (or any age): balance the volume. Fitted on top, defined waist, and a sleek shoe that doesn't weigh down the look. That's it. Super easy.

Now before I go and ruffle any feathers, hear me out. There is nothing wrong with wearing a scarf around your neck. I love the look, just not for me. I don’t like the feeling of anything around my neck. So I’m not going to show you a style that I don’t wear. Just keeping things real here 🤣.

And since I don’t wear a scarf around my neck, I’m showing you 6 ways to wear a scarf that don’t involve your neck. Around your waist, two ways through your belt loops, around your wrist, on your handbag, and over your shoulders.

You can also wear a larger scarf and run it through all of your belt loops, tied either in the front or to the side. You can tie a scarf around a low ponytail. Super cool.

These are some little styling details that can totally transform an outfit. All with items you probably already have in your closet. Play around with it, and make it fun.

Of course I have always loved Dolly. Who hasn’t? And of course her music was fabulous. But what I loved the most? Her message.

She was who she was with no apologies. She owned her identity, because that’s who she wanted to be. She didn’t care what anyone else thought.

And that’s exactly what I’ve been trying to preach. Be who you are. Do and wear what makes you comfortable and what makes you feel good about yourself. Stop worrying about what everybody else thinks.

Your cropped jeans should hit just above your ankle bone at the smallest part of your ankle. Too short—cuts your legs off. Too long? Confusing. Is she wearing highwaters or are they supposed to be cropped.
