Tip: for looser textures, make sure your hair is wet but NOT soaking when styling with this brush. If it's too wet, the clumps will stick together and not remain separated. This separation is what creates the volume

For bigger clumps, check out the Bounce Curl DEFINE EdgeLift brush tagged below under “similar” products. The side grooves are further apart on the Define brush.

I’ve also tagged the bounce curl cream as an alternative to the leave-in I show here. You’ll see that I most often use the cream over the leave-in, but never both as it would be too heavy for my hair type.

Tips & Tricks

Voluminous root hack ✨

Root clipping is nothing new, however the traditional methods involve multiple clips, some of which are metal and easily snag in my hair. Needless to say, I gave up using them a long time ago.

When I saw this one and done tool all over my social channels, I figured why not try it? It’s inexpensive and I love another tool in my arsenal.

So here is my feedback:

PROS:
➰ Super easy to use and it slides back near my crown for lift all down the root
➰ Comes with 2 pieces so one can also be placed on the sides.
➰ The clamp is strong enough to hold still while flipping upside down and side to side, how I traditionally dry my hair.
➰ Easy to take out without snagging
➰ Definitely gave me lift and it lasted all day (Tip: be sure to apply foam/mousse near the root before drying to help with hold)

CONS
➰ I have some really short pieces of fringe near the front which stood straight up when I initially finished drying
➰ As any root clip can do, this may cause a little straightening where the clip is placed. This didn’t bother me bc I have straighter roots, but it’s more obvious on the shorter front pieces.

So will I use this again? Definitely. Not only did it give me lift really easily, but I also use it to keep my hair off my face while doing my makeup. Multi-purpose, which I greatly appreciate!

My favorite and most trusted way to protect my hair while I sleep is with my hair in a banana clip and gently tucked into a satin bonnet. I simply couldn’t resist how adorable this strawberry 🍓one is!

Refresh routine

This spray gel really surprised me for this wavy curly hair washday routine.

This is the first spray gel I’ve ever tried and, after using it a couple times before, I’ve learned that it’s best applied to my hair damp. It’s lightweight and easy to spread. I also got a slight cast at the end, however, I think using a little more or a little less would change how hard that cast was.

For the cream, I’m in love with the scent and how much slip it has. It was very easy to distribute throughout my hair and a little we a long way for my finer strands.

Tips for using the Bounce Curl brush:

➰ For looser textures similar to mine, make sure your hair is wet, not soaking. Soaking hair will just allow all the clumps to go back together.

➰ Brush AFTER applying your stylers. This will allow for more even product distribution.

➰ Lift hair up and away from the scalp for added volume.

➰ This is NOT a detangling brush. Use only as a styling brush to get the most gorgeous curl clumps💛

Washday Routine

Air Dry vs Diffusing - Which do you prefer? ✨

I’m often asked why I choose to diffuse and my answer is pretty easy. I diffuse because it gives me my best desired results.

A few call outs:

➰ The diffuser helps lift the hair and give it more bounce and volume
➰ Air drying gives me a looser wave pattern as the water weighs down my hair in the drying process
➰ Diffusing half my head only took 10 minutes (usually ~20 mins for my entire head)
➰ Air drying the other half took 10x as long
➰ Since I was trying to keep each half separated, I couldn’t flip my hair upside down to dry, which gave me a flatter root. For more volume, dry side to side and upside down.

Humidity Hack⬇️

When hair is 100% dry: use a pump of foam or mousse, emulsified in your hands, then glaze and scrunch to break the crunchy cast in your hair. This also adds a nice layer of protection from the humidity.

Pro tip: use the warmth of the diffuser to help soften the cast when scrunching. This is also helpful as you can pause to hit any hidden damp spots with air before continuing to scrunch.
