Today we said goodbye to the last of our company who came into town for Thanksgiving, and it’s always a bittersweet thing. I’m exhausted from hosting, but having family near is just the best. Especially when there are good conversations full of laughter and banter. It was my first year with my new family though it felt entirely like it was always this way. Growing up we’d go to a friend’s home for Thanksgiving. They had six boys who were loud and rambunctious and every year someone would get hurt playing on the basketball court or football in the back yard. They welcomed anyone and everyone, making all feel at home. These have always been some of my most cherished holiday memories. It wasn’t until today that I realized that the family I’m marrying into would likewise add on to these cherished memories and create some of the happiest moments. I’ve talked to a few different people lately who had a hard weekend for various reasons and I’m sharing all this for them. These are the happy moments I’m talking about, but just a year ago was one of the hardest. Family ties were severed and hearts were hurting. Things that happened last year felt tremendous and I never would have believed I’d be in the position I am today. If this has been a tough time for you too, hold on.
