I’ve always been fascinated with stories that tell the history of a place. A person. Or even a brand. Whenever I take on a partnership I like to research the brand and learn more about their history and tonight I have a little treat for you all. Enter @Saks. You’ve no doubt heard of the luxury brand, but did you know that they used to have a ski slope in the store to offer ski lessons to shoppers? As well as a golf course where Scottish pros taught the game to the American public. It all began when two friends decided to create a shopping experience unlike any others in the early 1920s. By 1926, the nephew of one of the founders became the President and truly shaped the store into the luxurious experience we continue to see today. Inspired by the 1925 Paris Exposition, Adam Gimbel mirrored the sublime Art Moderne style. He designated specific sections of the store into individual boutiques for one-stop luxury shopping experiences filled with items exclusive to or custom made in house at Saks Fifth Avenue. It’s incredible to think that the vision of these friends would change shopping as we know it. That one store could influence an entire world by introducing the “bob” hairstyle we now think of as synonymous to the roaring 20s. A visit to Saks Fifth Avenue was a guarantee of luxury and style then and now. I’m highlighting four ways to incorporate quiet luxury into your everyday style with looks pulled directly from Saks Fifth Avenue. What is your favorite luxury item that you are always willing to invest in? My top pick would be coats of all kinds!
