And so January has come to an end. This month was, well, weird. Like many of you, I’ve been feeling incredibly anxious about the state of the world, but at the same time, this very well may have been my most exciting month in my personal life in a very, very long time. It’s odd to feel so scared and so lucky all at the same time. But I think that’s the best say to describe my January. Here is a little recap.
1. Sometimes my depression brings with it emotional blunting. I took this picture today in a moment where I actually fully felt happy. And that, that’s huge!
2. A perfect cup of Italian espresso with some frothed cream in my new pink Valentine’s Day mug. The handle and an indent in the mug form a heart! It is so cute!
3-4. My dad and me practicing archery in our backyard! It took a few quivers, but we eventually both hit the Apple!
5. A few tiny things on my bookshelf. I took this picture to help my boyfriend fully understand the gravity of my obsession for tiny trinkets!
6-7. My copy of Onyx Storm and me and my friend @_jessica_burroughs_ at an incredibly unhinged midnight release party for OS! I’m so glad we did this!
8. Some chocolate chip cookies I baked for the ladies in the office because stuff has been hectic and we needed a treat!
9. The Valentine’s Day card I’m making for my partner! He’s a big tea drinker, and as a certified craft girlie, I thought this was such a fun artsy card!
10. My Dad cutting my hair for me. He’s really the only “hairdresser” I’ve ever trusted.
11. A whimsical winter outfit from my upcoming YouTube video.
12. Finally, me sitting on my floor crying after my partner said the most thoughtful and validating thing in the world to me. I genuinely felt a massive insecurity of mine start to melt away. To be cared for so well is a blessing I will never take for granted. 💕

Oh what a magical sight to behold. We woke up to a blanket of snow this Little Christmas. I had planned to whip out my little knitted witch hat and do a La Befana (the Italian Christmas witch) shoot in the snow, but alas, I couldn’t find it. Today I went to my first ever convention. It was Collect-A-Con in RVA. There were so many Pokémon, Anime and Funko Pop vendors. There were also some incredible artisans. I ended up getting myself a miniature crystal Toothless, a 3D printed Wyvern and a painting for Kiki and Jiji from Kiki’s Delivery Service. It was so much fun to dress in costume (I went as Violet Sorrengail, which was low-key not in theme, but also, who cares?) and explore all the shops with my family. And so many other people dressed in incredible cosplays! I’m excited to see what other cons I end up at in the future! 🖤

The scariest thing I’ve ever done is decide to live for myself. Growing up, I was always the one people excepted would do something big. And while it’s an honor to have so much faith put in me, it also lead to me making decisions about my life based on if it would make others happy with or proud of me.

To be completely honest, I think this is what lead to my recent identity crisis. For the first time, I realized I needed to start making decisions about my life for myself. Not because they would make me “look successful” or prove that I could live up to people’s expectations of me. I needed to make decisions because they fueled my passion, creativity and happiness.

This journey I’m on has been difficult, and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve questioned my own judgement in the last month. But it’s also been so full of joy. Choosing myself has allowed me to flourish in my creativity, really evaluate what brings me joy, and reflect on what I want my life to look like.

For all of you who are also searching for something, take heart and remain hopeful. Trust your instincts and follow your joy. I heard someone say once, “If you’re really passionate about something, but it also scares the hell out of you, run as hard as you can towards it.”

I recently heard someone use the phrase “dopamine dressing” and was instantly curious about the concept. Admittedly, I learned that it’s not all that complicated. It’s the idea of only wearing clothes that make you happy, therefore boosting your dopamine production. This world is so chaotic and filled for darkness and judgement. And as difficult as it is to accept, it’ll always be this way. So, you might as well spend your time doing what you love and wearing what makes you happy, even if other people don’t understand it.

The concept for this shoot was to capture the essence of a fairy princess who is coming to terms with the gravity of her future role of Queen.
