November. I can hardly believe we’re knocking on the door of the end of the year already.
I feel like I spent so much of the early part of this year focused on the external —how type 3 of me, right? But seriously, it was all consuming. And distracting. And honestly, unhealthy.
— How did I look?
— How much weight have I lost?
— How much money am I making?
— How many new followers do I have?
— How successful am I at X, Y, Z?
A few months ago, it felt like it all came crashing down. Because I was trying to build on sand. It forced me to take a step back and take a long, hard look at where I was investing my time and my heart.
And then it hit me — to actually build something meaningful, on a SOLID foundation, I needed to invest in myself first. I needed to intentionally seek out healing, from the inside out. I needed to put my own wellness, mind body and soul, first.
Girl, I get it. Life is TOUGH. There are responsibilities and relationships and distractions and it is straight up overwhelming, ESPECIALLY when you’re trying to chase your dreams.
But what if I told you that the real key to achieving those dreams is to stop chasing all together.
What if the key isn’t sacrificing yourself on the altar of accomplishing one. more. thing. but instead it’s turning your attention on yourself?
I know, it feels selfish and backwards — but hear me out.
When you focus on yourself, and your own wholeness and wellness, I promise you’ll find that the cup that was nearing empty before is slowly filling back up. And once it’s full? That’s when the overflow happens.
Here’s my challenge for you on this first day of the second half of the year — take 30 minutes today and do something for YOU.
Meditate. Pray. Read. Take a warm bath. Go for a walk. Sit in the sun.
Whatever you do, do it for YOU. Because as the age old saying goes, you can’t pour from an empty cup.
