Wearing Nili Lotan jacket. The Paige is my favorite style. Goes with everything! Blue may be sold out but olive green and an ecru stripe are equally good!

Mother Denim jeans - my go to. Universally flattering. Prefer this silhouette with a mid heel shoe.

Love the mini Flamenco bag from Loewe. Extremely versatile with the option of a short chain strap, a long leather strap or neither for use as a clutch .

My favorite shoe to gain a little height is a heeled loafer. I wear them frequently with jeans and trousers. The Bottega Veneta Monsieur in black and The Row soft loafer in brown are both supremely comfortable. But for something a little dressier, a pump projects a more refined style. I’m eyeing Gabriela Hearts’s sculptural GORGEOUS Sofia pump and The Row’s equally fabulous glossed low heel pump as contenders. Both are under 3″ which is my max. Jeans, trousers, dresses or skirts all work beautifully here.

A simple turtleneck in a classic silhouette is a must. I like having a couple on hand in various weights from cotton to cashmere. Regardless of the fabrication, for travel it must be light enough to layer under jackets. Oversized, chunky knits, or exaggerated sleeves are great style statements at home, but I'd never pack one. I'm wearing a cashmere knit from @SAKS that's perfect in all these ways.⁠

THE HUMBLE HERO

A highlight show from the SS24 collections was Louise Trotter’s debut at Carven. The look above sums up the appeal and provides styling inspiration.

I’m imagining fresh ways to wear the humble grey pullover. I’ll pair it with a skirt that has textural interest. This white pencil skirt from Vince is perfect and could become another hero piece in my closet.

Square toe flats also caught my eye. A pair from Gianvito Rossi in a snake print reads as a neutral and will step in when I want to punctuate an outfit with something eye catching.

Back to the humble hero though…the grey sweater. When I don’t want to wear it quite so loose, I’ll pin it up inspired by Erdem’s one and done piece. I can pair it with a full skirt and get a new look going with a nod to Prada or Bottega Veneta. And of course, tossed on with a pair of jeans and an oversized blazer is easy and timeless.

With high waisted skirts and jeans, a boxy cropped jacket is the way to go. The silhouette balances proportions beautifully.

Day to day, I’m usually wearing a pretty basic top and bottom, so a jacket (and shoes) is where I make the look feel special. From vintage finds to investment pieces, I love having a mini collection to choose from. My latest purchase – a Gucci ivory cropped tweed – is a timeless investment piece I’ll wear for years to come.

Fall Outfits

I love this color palette year round but think it looks especially chic in the fall.

Ivory shoes continue to make outfits feel fresh and in the form of a loafer doesn’t stray far from my classic sensibilities.

FENDI’s new Origami bag is a nice introduction to the covetable handbag game and in taupe is a winner.

LOULOU STUDIO’s cashmere blend coat is simple and beautiful. The clean lines make it suitable to wear over a variety of pieces from casual day looks to dressier evening.

When I don’t feel like wearing loose slouchy jeans and want to be a bit more pulled together, I’ll toss on a dress. The ribbed knit from LOULOU STUDIO or twisted flannel from TOTEME (below) are silhouettes I like.

Something Old, Something New

I have charms dating all the way back to my childhood. Some I’ve held on to for memory and have no intention of wearing while others have lately been seeing the light of day. I play around with them to see what works and this is one of my favorite current combos. The round disc from Devon Woodhill Jewelry paired with a simple diamond. It’s fun reworking old treasures and I like the feeling of wearing something I’ve had for a long time. It adds meaning and makes me happy.

TOP TEN AT HOME OR AWAY

This week’s Top Ten is inspired partially by what I observed on a recent visit to Copenhagen.

The outfits that carried the most cache for me were ones that looked effortlessly pulled together in a classic but unexpected way. The formula was based on pairing a tailored piece (trouser, pencil skirt) with a simple tank or tee, then anchored with walking friendly casual flats. There’s a practicality element in how to dress when navigating cobblestone streets. That’s where the sturdy shoes come in, but a low heeled sandal could dress up these looks in a breeze. Pearls tossed on without care added an interesting contrast. The overall look was polished but undone.

I love this beautiful chamois hued Bottega Veneta bag. It looks good with so many things in my closet. I’m trying to stay in a summer mode, but have fall travel on my mind. I’m mentally checking off a few items I’d like to have with me on my next trip in September. The foundation of my travel attire is a uniform I’ve stuck with for years. Although the pieces remain the same – slim pants, comfortable walking shoes, lightweight jackets, a crossbody bag – I like to switch up the styles. The pieces above stay true to the uniform but would offer a subtle update.

The Prada padded nylon bag is a multi-tasking, dress up or down workhorse that would also fit nicely into my carry-on tote. I’ll wear slim black pants or leggings with Birkenstocks, low boots, loafers or a chunky heel making them an ideal option for day to night dressing. I’m in the mood for a seasonal change with a lighter palette but not quite ready for fabrics that sacrifice warmth. So with jeans – dark, light or white – I’ll pair a soft unlined jacket that will layer over a tank, tee, or sweater without excess bulk. I’ll go with a color and shape that lends itself to cozy dressing with boots, a casual run-around outfit with loafers, or dressed up a bit with a heeled sandal.
