THE UNIFORM

Wearing Nili Lotan jacket. The Paige is my favorite style. Goes with everything! Blue may be sold out but olive green and an ecru stripe are equally good!

Mother Denim jeans - my go to. Universally flattering. Prefer this silhouette with a mid heel shoe.

Love the mini Flamenco bag from Loewe. Extremely versatile with the option of a short chain strap, a long leather strap or neither for use as a clutch .

Inspiration From Italy

I’m easing back into my routine after traveling in Italy. Inevitably along the way, there were moments of style inspiration which I mentally packed up to revisit when I got home. The strongest of those moments came from Cortina, a mountain town in the Dolomites where the chic crowd perfected the art of dressing down. Not a label in sight. The Italians get it. Instead men and women wore what appeared to be well-loved personal favorites -suede or leather boat shoes with pants short enough to glimpse tan ankles, tasseled loafers with bright socks, and a head turning amount of stylish barn coat/field jacket toppers in every shade of green. These were paired with relaxed jeans, collared shirts casually tucked in, or loose dresses. The most stylish women to my eye wore hair in an almost messy gathered ponytail, a swipe of lipstick to complement a bare face with minimal if any makeup, and interesting jewelry.

OPPOSITES ATTRACT

A commenter asked for examples of the loose dresses I mentioned in yesterday’s post. Looking at how Prada styled the jacket is the jumping off point for inspiration. Having the strong contrast of a structured utilitarian piece paired with a soft dress creates an interesting look. The casual mocassin loafer anchors it all.

For my FALL STYLE LOOKS, I’d like to layer in soft pieces – a dress, skirt and definitely a shirt. Looking at the SS25 collections, this feeling isn’t going away anytime soon.

Toteme’s shirt is the vibe. It’s got the shape I’m after. Equally important is the fabric – a semi sheer organza or voile for example. Perfect for the warmer fall months.

I’m wearing a TWP voile shirt (also have it in navy and love it with dark denim) and old AGOLDE jeans. I’d layer a structured field coat over this look and ground it with suede flats.

The skirts I’m eyeing include one from Toteme and Loulou Studio in tan or blush pink. I’d wear them with dark khaki, ochre, or any sort of off color for visual interest.

This is the second in an ongoing series of favorite things. I post a lot on styling ideas and fabulous products so I think it’s also good to see what actually ends up in my closet and what I wear on repeat. In this image, I’m wearing three pieces that have been part of my grab and go daily style lately. I wrote about the Bottega Veneta Andiamo bag previously and can’t speak highly enough on the quality, comfort, and versatility. This may be one of the few bags I’ll repeat in another color. The burgundy is calling my name. As far as ease, the one and done Brochu Walker Looker sweater makes me feel dressed and pulled together without a thought. I toss it on over faded or dark jeans, black pants and slim skirts. The cream and white looks fresh this time of year too. For jewelry, one bold piece is clean, modern and fuss free. Again, the ease of slipping on a cuff trumps fastening bracelets or necklaces. The Sidney Garber cuff is a timeless piece I’ll treasure forever.

A simple turtleneck in a classic silhouette is a must. I like having a couple on hand in various weights from cotton to cashmere. Regardless of the fabrication, for travel it must be light enough to layer under jackets. Oversized, chunky knits, or exaggerated sleeves are great style statements at home, but I'd never pack one. I'm wearing a cashmere knit from @SAKS that's perfect in all these ways.⁠

A black pant is equally key. I'm sold on a cropped style from Frame with stretch for comfort, practicality, and style. I'd pack them in a heartbeat plus another full length style. Either are workhorses easy to dress up or down, wear with sneakers, loafers, or heels. They're indispensable.⁠

With high waisted skirts and jeans, a boxy cropped jacket is the way to go. The silhouette balances proportions beautifully.

Day to day, I’m usually wearing a pretty basic top and bottom, so a jacket (and shoes) is where I make the look feel special. From vintage finds to investment pieces, I love having a mini collection to choose from. My latest purchase – a Gucci ivory cropped tweed – is a timeless investment piece I’ll wear for years to come.

I have a feeling I’ll be wearing these pieces on repeat. The sweater and pants, both by Brochu Walker, are supremely comfortable and will act as the starting point for numerous looks. The cashmere v-neck is loose with open hem sides ready to be layered or worn on its own. And I absolutely love the vegan leather pants. I’ll wear them day or night, with flats, sneakers or heels. Easy to dress up with a blouse and jacket or play down with a tee and knit. Additional colors are a must.
