➞ Swap denim for colored pants, chinos or corduroy pants
 ➞ Add style and depth with layers — think a button-down shirt under a sweater or a chocolate brown suede jacket over a textured shirt
 ➞ Mix in rich textures like suede or ribbed knits. Texture adds so much to the photos and works great when you are going for a monochromatic look or neutrals
 ➞ Skip the Nikes and opt for loafers, boots or leather sneakers
 ➞ Stick to timeless fall tones or neutrals: navy, camel, olive, stone, cream, rust

I pulled together some of my favorite 2026 fall family photo outfit ideas in the color palettes I love most for pictures: chocolate brown, burgundy, olive green, navy, cream, camel and warm neutrals.

As a family photographer, my biggest tip is to coordinate instead of match. Start with one outfit you love... usually mom’s....and build everyone else around it using 3–4 colors, different textures and just a little pattern.

Think sweater dresses, satin skirts, cable-knit sweaters, corduroy, quilted jackets, polos, loafers, boots, Mary Janes and simple neutral shoes. These are the kinds of pieces that photograph beautifully while still feeling current for fall.
